You can only interact with the iPad using iTunes unless you have one of the apps that will let you mount the iPad like a thumb drive, so if you are looking for the iPad in the Finder, you will not see it.
If you are using iTunes and you don't see the iPad in there, and if you are using iTunes 11 - go to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu and then you should see the iPad under the devices heading in the left sidebar.
If that still not what you are trying to do, provide some details.

How are you trying to see it ? An iPad isn't designed to mount as a drive, so it won't appear in Finder. If you have photos on the iPad that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc, then it should show in Image Capture, iPhoto and Aperture for copying them off. Otherwise content is synced via your computer's iTunes (some third-party apps also allow content to be copied to/from them via your wifi network) - if it's not showing in iTunes then there is some troubleshooting on this page which might help : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

Did you look here for some help?

Yes, I already went through that troubleshooting process. I'm wondering if maybe I'm not using the correct cord. It fits both in my ipad and computer but are there a couple of different types maybe???

The cable itself could be faulty. Is it the cable that came with the iPad?

Can I export or import MOV files directly from within the Final Cut Pro application using the drop down menu commands. I do not see the iPad as a destination and I don't understand why? I am connected using the 30-pin to USB cable and I do see my iPad in iTunes and iPhoto.
