If the shuffle is seen in iTunes, you can select it in iTunes, go to the shuffle's Settings screen, and use the Restore button. This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. If this problem is only data corruption, the Restore should fix it. If a hardware problem is causing the data corruption to occur, then a Restore will not fix it.
