thanks for the hint, but unfortunately it didn't help. Neither did restarting from CD Mac OS 9 as startvolume.

Sep 12, 2013 8:15 AM in response to Christian Matzerathby MichelPM,That is correct.
Your G4 cube needs Mac OS 9.1
Why do you need OS 9 when you are running OS X 10.4 Tiger?
Do you have full retail OS X 10.4 Tiger discs?
The only way to install both OS 9 and OS X is to completely erase and reformat the drive.
I do not believe with just OS X installed, you can add OS 9 as another bootable OS.
If you completely erase, reformat and install OS 9 and do not have a OS X disc to reinstall OS X, you will lose your current version of OS X on your Cube.
This is the last version of OS X to run on the Cube. If you have to purchase this, now, the full retail install disc of OS X 10.4 Tiger is very, very expensive, now.
BTW,
if your cube is running OS X 10.4.8, check the software update feature to see if you can update your current OS X version to OS X 10.4.11. The final update for OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Sep 12, 2013 8:31 AM in response to MichelPMby Christian Matzerath,Hi Michel,
I want to have a native OS 9 machine, cos Nisus Writer 6.5 is running much better under OS 9 than in Classic, MailKeeper, which is another Nisus Application, only runs with a native OS 9 System, and I want to connect my Newton MessagePad to the Cube, which also works better with a native system.
OS X is running on my iMac (10.6) and my Mac Mini (10.8), so I don't need another (slow) X on my cube.

Sep 12, 2013 8:33 AM in response to Christian Matzerathby MichelPM,Gotcha!
Didn't realize you had more than one Mac.
Try Amazon or eBay for the full OS 9.1 install discs.
Good Luck!

Sep 12, 2013 10:12 AM in response to Christian Matzerathby Jeremy Travis,I have two Apple G4 cube computers.
The first one I brought came with a specific OS 8.6 disk for the computer and the second one I brought six month latter came with an OS9 disc again both specific to the computer.
I have booted both of my cubes from basic OS9 retail install discs and the both worked fine.
These computers can be slighlty tempremental with the slot loading DVD drives so make sure the disc is clean and not dammaged.
