Help!  I am trying to synch my google contacts to my iPad.  The error message I am receiving is "Cannot connect using SSL.  Do you want to continue?"  If I answer yes, instead of canceling, after the system tries to verifies and cannot, then I am given the ability to go to Advanced Settings, BUT only then.  The SSL is turned on, but I have to change the port number from zero to 443.  Then I back out and try again, ending up with the same message.  I am sorry, but I don't know if I have an iPad "3" or "4" and don't know how to find out.  The iPad was a gift in January of this year (2013).  The version is 6.1.3

I did have all of my contacts on my iPad up to a few days ago, BUT my iPad would not synch with my calendar, and the calendar I also use every day.  I got tired of carrying around my old paper-bound weekly calendar as well as my iPad I decided to fix the problem.  For some reason, it seemed the problem was the free Apple iCloud service I mistakenly signed up for (I pay for Dropbox service so don't even need the Apple service).  So I deleted the Apple iCloud account, not paying attention that it would wipe out everything.  BUT I was able to finally synch my google calendar with my iPad and android-based phone and my contacts are on my phone.  Of course, now I have no iPad contacts.

So call me stupid, but please help.  I appreciate any help you may be able to give this computer neophyte.

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.1.3
