Due to file corruption that could not be repaired by Disk Utility, I had to erase my iMac and install Snow Leopard (I think) from the recovery disk.  Then I connected the iMac to my Mini via Firewire and transferred everything that it would transfer.  I don't know what that exactly consisted of because I have not been able to access the iMac:  It is asking for my password, using the same icon for me that appeared on the Mini, but it is not accepting the password that I use on the Mini.  Clearly, it transferred the sign on ID and password but it got garbled somehow.  The Mini is running on OS 10.7.5.  Could that be the problem?  (The iMac was also on 10.7.5 before I had to erase it.)  Anyway, I need to find a way in and I have zero technical experience or knowhow.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6)
