Q: Apps are stuck on updating on Iphone 4s

Well, I hope someone out there has a foolproof solution to this problem.  Because frankly I'm stumped.

I have Iphone 4S - 32GB - Black - iOS6 .

Lately I have had issues updating my apps.   For some reason some apps get stuck on updating.  They stay stuck on the update page.  Doesn't ever resume on its own.  These solutions I have tried:

  • Restarting the phone
  • Resetting the phone
  • Deleting the app (Settings > General > Usage > Storage) and trying to reinstall
  • Airplane mode (on/off)

I deleted the app(s) in question and tried to reinstall them again and it still says its still trying to install.   Any good solutions to fix this problem?

I imagine like most of you this started by opening Apps and clicking a dozen or so to update and then wandering off, only to come back later and find all of them stalled at 'waiting'.  Restarting, clicking on this and that, deleting apps (I don't want to delete any apps), clicking in apps and watching with frustration as it goes to the app and still sits there stuck, wondering why there is no 'pause' as mentioned many times, then praying, swearing, crying - nothing worked.

Sadly, none of the dozens of suggestions I read on the Internets the last two days worked.  I just fixed it though - plugged phone into iTunes. Navigate to device, clicks Apps at the top, click Sync at the bottom... wait for sync to process to complete.

Once done the Apps magically started updating.

You are welcome if that works for you - I'm glad I didn't have to restore either.

Actually, this did not work for me.  I finally took the app off the device.  Went to APP update page and clicked on "Purchased" right at the top.  From here I went to the Cloud and downloaded the APP from my cloud again.  This solved it.

    Worth trying this:

Single tap the app's icon on the home screen and it will pause the download. Now go back to the iTunes App Store, switch to the "Updates" screen and click "Update" to resume the download.

    Works most of the time...

This soluion worked for me. Thanks yakimadude!

I had to repeat the process  a few times for some apps, but it definitely worked for me.

    • First make sure you have enough memory to install/update the app.

    • Second don't delete it.

    • Thirdly DONT PANIC!

    • Fourth click on the app as if you was going to open it. You will see the status change to loading then installing.

    • Fifth if you have other apps freezing you can click on them too. You DONT have to wait till the first done, it won't install while the first is, but it will put it back in the queue lineup.

Thanks for reading email me if you have any more questions.

    - connect to itunes

    - go to phone apps area, see the status of the app, if it says update, then click and it will change to 'will update'

    -  else click uninstall

    - then sync

    - if you clicked update, this should now kick all the 'waiting' apps into action 1 by 1

    - if you had to uninstall, then re-install

    - If this does not work you might have to try it a few times, its wierd

    - also try unplugging phone, then connecting again, update, remove, install, its kind of like you have to slap it around a few times and then it works.

Had this problem caused by an incomplete iTunes sync. Nothing I did on the phone would correct it. The problem was solved by connecting back to the PC and starting the sync again. I had to do it a few times because each time would leave a few apps still stuck.

I had this same problem with my iPhone 4S, 64 Gb, iOS 6.1.3! 4 apps stuck in the updating process, and I was going to try some of the options mentioned in this thread. However, I tried the path of least resistance first, by accident. I had already done the easy stuff like phone on and off routine, etc.

I attempted to open each application, with the intention of deleting it and redownloading. Instead, the app saw that it was in the process of being updated, and simply started the process again, problem resolved! I had to do this for each of the 4 apps in question. It worked the same for each.

    ** SOLUTION - Read no further **

Easy solution. From the homepage, click on each app that is stuck and it will change to waiting and then update. This worked when all the other much more radical suggestions failed. I got this answer from another thread.
