iTunes can't locate the songs that I bought from the iTunes store on my new computer

I just got a new computer today and I backed up all my songs from old computer onto an external hard drive. When I sent my songs over onto my new computer and freshly downloaded iTunes, the songs that I actually purchased from the iTunes store won't play. It says that the item cannot be located.
