Hi guys.  I know some of the guys here have had theirs replaced even after the 3 yrs Apple has given to replace the logic board.  What did you do to get Apple to own up to their mistake?  Mine is 2 months over their 3 yrs and they're NOT covering it. 


Ideally, what Apple should really do is write an email to all that had bought the 2010 MBP 6,2 and inform them of their production mess-up.  I've registered my machine so why can't they have informed me.  I wouldn't have thought it may have been just a software issue that an update will eventually resolve.  They knew it was going to fail; i think it would have been fair to communicate that to the buyers even after the fact.

    No one from Apple here - we're users, just like you, and can't really even guess why they choose to do what they choose to do.


    If I were you, I would print out the Knowledge Base article and return it and you machine into your local Apple Store and plead with the store manager. Two months past you date of purchase is not that much - other users here have been in the same predicament and have had their logic boards replaced.


    It's worth a chance...

    I've already been to two apple stores.  the first AS i went back twice.  the first time when they diagnosed it has failed and they will replace it and 2nd when i was trying to find out why i wasn't covered (i got a call the following day).  that 2nd time i spoke to the manager but she just backed her Genius and that they know what they are doing.  they told me my unit's LB wasn't covered but never mentioned the 2 months.  on my 2nd AS, the genius informed me that i'm passed by 2 months and that's why it's not "flipping" to the part ordering page.  it's pretty disappointing each time i get the bad news that i'm not covered.... i can always go to a 3rd store but it's very tiring when they give u the bad news.  ruined my days that's for sure.

    I wouldn't bother with Store shopping - if the manager's going to 'back up' the 'Genius' tech, then I don't see that you have any recourse. It's a real shame, becuase Apple limited the replacement to within 3 years of purchase and the mid-2010's began shipping in April 2010.


    You could try getting in touch with Apple's Customer Relations folks - they may be able to do something that store managers cannot.

    Just got off the phone with the 1.800 apple support and was able to speak with a service advisor. The advisor was extremely helpful unfortunately I was still quoted the company's policy regarding the TS4088's 3 year coverage.  I think I'm pretty much at the end of my line here in terms of trying to get Apple to replace my motherboard.  Extremely disappointed.


    I want to give a lot of credit to the service advisor though. I'm sure everything was looked into but I guess some policies just can't be bent. A formal complaint would be filed but I'm not hoping for anything to happen bec of that.


    For anyone still within that 3 yr period.... Go and hurry. Get yours checked ASAP.

    i got home a bit late tonight and i received an awesome message on my answering machine.  The senior service advisor i spoke with at Apple's customer service made some more investigating and i'm now qualified for warrantee work. woooooohoooooo!

    Just got my machine back.  my iPhoto is no longer crashing the machine.  so far so good.  i hope to be using this laptop for a few more yrs.


    the bill came out to about $776 with the MLB + the trackpad assembly (they did on their own) + labour.... good thing it was covered by Apple.  Again..... thanks Apple.  i didn't even know my trackpad had a problem to begin with.

    If you have this issue see here and try politely speaking with the manager, and state that you are well aware of this issue and see if they will help you, lobby for this HARD.

    If your issue is back, I think you have some grounds to work with here.  If I'm not mistaken, all Apple repair work is covered for 90 days or the remainder of the system warranty, whichever is longer.  This would mean that if they just repaired your system, and it is failing again now, you have 90 days from the repair date for them to correct the problem, if it is related to the original repair.  I remember going through this with my first 17" MBP.  About a month before the end of the Apple Care they replaced the LCD due to the CFL's going bad.  They accidentally put the wrong LCD on my system and had to replace it with the correct one.  By that time, the Apple Care had expired, but they didn't argue with properly replacing it.  After getting the correct display, the LCD would not power up after sleeping.  They finally tracked this down to them having put the wrong LCD on the system and the Logic Board needed to be replaced to correct it.  They did that at no charge, even though the Apple Care had expired, because it was caused by their incorrect LCD replacement earlier.  They even did the repair as I sat in the waiting area because I had jsut had a tooth removed earlier that day, and it was too far for me to go home and return before they closed.  The repair tech was amazed how calm and patient I was since I just had the dental work hours before, and he was having problems.  I didn't fault him, and I was just happy that they were making it right.

    thanks guys.  i guess it's back to the shop once again.  believe it or not i have been back to the apple store probably at least 7 times now since my issue started.  gets tiring but i thought everything was resolved—now this.  frustrating but still being patient that's for sure.  plus Apple did fix my it even when it went over the 3 yrs limit of this service bulletin—definitely happy about that.


    the repair work: yup well within the 90 days that's for sure so hopefully will get resolve w/o a hitch.

    Thank you for these posts. My computer is currently out of the 3 years service limit.   I am having this issue and was having trouble getting the Apple store to acknowledge they had missed the defect when I was still under warranty.  I followed in peachy MBP's foot steps and called Apple support.  They dug deeper and saw that I had submitted the kernel panic reports while my warranty was still in affect and the store had missed it when I brought it in.  They are going to fix it at apple's cost.  I was becoming very frustrated with Apple and felt cheated I was not helped when I first presented this problem to them 18 months ago.---peachy MBP, I see that the problem has presented itself again.  I read on other discussion boards the replacement part has a chance of being defective as well.  I hope it worked out for you.

    yes my MBP is working well after that last repair work. 


    jim, what did you mean by "They dug deeper and saw that I had submitted the kernel panic reports while my warranty was still in affect".  You mean they have it in their records whenever our units crash and it's recorded.  I thought those were anonymous.  When my MBP was crashing left and right due to the k-panic i submitted most of the reports back to Apple via that automated report the laptop presents after the restart.  I told them that but the genius told me those are anonymous and can't be searched or something to that effect.


    or did u mean that you had the k-panic recorded at the apple store when you brough it in earlier?
