Q: Can I use home sharing with Power Mac G5?

I am using a PowerMac G5 2.0GHz, I am currently using an AirPort Extreme card however would have no difficulty in using ethernet connection.

I was wondering if, can I run home sharing from my PowerMac to my ATV3 and iPad? If so, what operating system and iTunes version would be required?

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.3.x), 1.8GHz

You need to install a full retail version of OS X 10.5 Leopard, then run the software update fearure of OS X  to update  the OS X version to OS X 10.5.8 and then update iTunes to 10.6.3 to get the Home Sharing feature.

iTunes 10.6.3 is the last version of iTunes to work on PowerPC Macs.

    What iPad are you using?

I have an iPad3 and this feature worked the OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.6.3.

Not sure about the latest ATV, though.

I have an iPad with Retina display (4th gen).

So, I know I can't play 1080p itunes video smoothly on PowerMac but do you know if I can stream 1080p, then view it on iPad?

    No.

Again, I do not think your iPad 4 will work with OS X 10.5 Leopard.

MInimum system required for iPad 4 is an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or later OS X versions.

Your PowerMac G5 is permanently stuck to OS X 10.5 Leopard.

    Sorry.
