Q: Software update not available at this time

When installing my iOS 7 it says that the update is not available at this time. I have it fully downloaded and I just press install and it gives me this error. Any ideas?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Same here. Mine downloaded but then got stuck with "verifying update."

Fix by doing what everybody else said, keep pushing the install button. After about 5 or 6 attempts of backing out and then going back into Software Update (under General), it finally budged. No need to soft-reset.

    Good luck everybody and enjoy!

Looks like a traffic jam in Cupertino.  What else is new in Cali!  After mutiple attempts for about 45 minutes I finally got mine to start.  Looks like the whole update is taking well over 3 hours.  I'm retired so I got time, with all the hype I'm looking forward to it though.  Wonder why Apple didn't make the OS available at the stroke of midnight?  Some of the traffic may have been thinned out before now.

I have tried at least a dozen times now and rebooted twice, but no success.  This is on an iPad 2.  Does anyone have any other ideas?

No new ideas.  I was able to sucessfully update my iPhone 4S and IPad 2 after many many retries.  Unfortunatly that's the only thing that seems to be working for people.   My guess is from now through most peoples bedtime it's only going to get worst as folks start to get home from work on the east coast and then across the country and try to update.  I guess the only other alternative would be to wait until the wee hours of the night when the network traffic may be down.

Why would the volume matter after the update is downloaded?  Doesn't that only affect the downloading of hte update, not the installation?

Cuz Apple has this thing where they verify your update.  This requires their verification server comunicate with your phone/ipad and look over the software it just downloaded to make sure it's complete and valid before it will let your device install it.  Kind of a protection step just in case something happended during the download to corrupt the software and thus ruin your device.  So these servers now are under heavy load just as the download servers were/are.

I had to try atleast 7 or 8 times before mine started installing. I turned off wifi, all my apps, and rebooted and did a soft reset. Now its finally installing. Keep trying!

For my iPad Retina USB version, I can confirm while installing the update through the UI in Settings on the device, after successfully downloading, then getting the "Software Update is unavailable" error many times, a hard reboot of the device cured the problem.
