Q: Deleting an iCloud account that doesn't exist

I am trying to delete my iCloud account from my iPhone 4S that is synced with my old iTunes email account that is no longer active. The problem is that it asks for the password in order to delete it, but it does not accept any password because the account is no longer valid. Even when trying to look up the old account or password through the "Forgot ID or Password" link, it says it cannot verify the username, even after I have put in all my old information.

I can log into iCloud.com on a desktop using the new username, but I can't change it to the new one on my iPhone 4S without having a password, which doesn't exist. So I am stuck.

Any ideas?

I am also experiencing the same problem on my phone but had a question that went along with what is being discussed here. I am planning to upgrade to a new iphone soon and wanted to know that if when I got my new phone though it would be my old phonenumber would I be able to enter my current (updated) icould id or would the old id automatically pop up on the phone?

I didn't actually open FaceTime, I just opened the FaceTime settings in the settings app. Deleted the iCloud email associated with it. Entered in my new email. Then clicked the iCloud settings and was able to delete the email without being prompted for a password.

Weirdest loophole ever, and I stumbled on it purely by chance but for some reason it works.

I'm so glad I didn't have to restore my ipad!

I'm having the same problem.  Downloaded new ios7 and while doing so updated my apple id to new email address info.  Now can't use iCloud, wants password for old email that doesn't exist, tried to delete it but need password and when connecting to iTunes it will not allow me to restore iPhone without turning off 'find my phone' in the iCloud settings, which of course needs the password.

I too tried the facetime thing mentioned above but was a no go.

    Completely stuck. Help!!!

If you still have access to your old email account, try Brackers28's solution here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23020591#23020591.

Try going to Settings>iCloud and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud).  Then see if Find My iPhone will accept your password, allowing you to disable it and sign back into your iCloud account in Settings>iCloud.

    Same thing!

I have my new AppleID everywhere on the phone (store, facetime) for a long time. I use my new AppleID on the web on my laptop. But I cannot wipe out the old one in iCloud settings regardless of method, and I've tried everything recommented in this post and couple of others. You cannot delete that account from iCloud settings if you had 'Find My iPhone' turned on (during installation of iOS7?) as you _will_ be asked for now defunct credentials to be provided.

Wow I have been trying to figure this problem out forever and logging in and out of facetime did the trick!

    Thank you!!!!!!

Try this: Turn on Airplane Mode, and make sure WiFi is off. Goto iCloud, dele te the account. Then, turn on Wifi and turn off Airplane Mode, add new account

Amazing. The Facetime solution works. Thanks, you've saved me a hideous trip to the Genius Bar.

I tried this but had no success.  I tried the facetime loop logging in an out and tried the airplane thing.  As soon as I open the iCloud in settings it wants the password to do anything and will not accept it.

I had the same problem iCloud show me the old account and I solved in this way (sorry for my bad English.....you know, I'm Italian...).

    So:

Opend Find my iPhone and exit from the log in.

Now you can delete your old iCloud account and enter with the new one.

    Easy.

It works on my Ipad with ios7.

ditto. i tried the facetime thing and the airplane mode one but to no avail. surely there is a way round it, it seems to be this new find my phone that is the major pain. if it wasnt for this it wouldnt require a password for an account that doesnt exist anymore and deleting the icloud account would be straight forward.
