Q: AirDrop showing the wrong name and picture with iOS 7

AirDrop is showing the wrong name and picture on my wife's phone....It is showing my name and picture.  She has an iPhone 5 and I just updated her to iOS7 about an hour ago, same time as I did mine. Is it because we are connected with the same Apple ID and if so, how do I fix it?  She is annoyed by it and not seeing where I can change it in the settings is beginning to annoy me.  Help!

iPhone 5, iOS 7

That is exactly why. You both should have different Apple IDs. This will cuase problems with iMessage and FaceTime too.

I don't think that's the issue.  I'm having the same problem.  My wife, my son, and I all use the same Apple ID, but we have different email addresses and phone numbers for facetime and imessage (we've never had an issue with imessage or facetime).  Today, I updated my phone and ipad to ios 7 and tried to experiment with airdrop.  On both devices it showed my son's name.  Then my son updated his ipad and we tested airdrop again.  His ipad shows up on my phone and ipad with his name as well.  The email address that I use for Apple ID is not associated with him on any device.  His name is not listed on our Apple ID account.  One of them shows his photo that he uses for his facebook profile, but the other's just have a gray circle with his first initial.  I'm hoping it's just a bug that will get fixed soon, but if anyone knows a fix, please share.

I'm having the exact same problem. When using air drop between my and my wife's iPhone 5, her name comes up when she is trying to air drop something to me. We have different iCloud accounts even. Any help? More bugs in apple software. What happened to " it just works"?

All my family's devices have different names and even accounts but they all on airdrop have my daughters name. I don't understand why!

AirDrop use the contact info in your Contacts app to identify other AirDrop users. Does your daughter share similar contact info with the rest of your family?

Try editing the contact info (phone numbers/email) so that they are specific to one contact.

I don't know if it really fixed my problem, but I did reset all settings on my iphone when I was having this issue last night.  I didn't think it was the fix because every device worked correctly after I reset just my phone, but who knows.  Maybe give it a shot.

It is very possible this stems from the high server activity due to the iOS 7 release. AirDrop still has to check and verify Apple IDs.

AirDrop uses contact info from your Contacts app.

The problem may be that your contact card and your wife's contact card share some of the same info (phone numbers/email addresses).

    Hi All,

I am having the same problem, ipad 4 and an iphone 5 both on ios7, air drop shows up that both devices are called my son's ipad !!!!! this is still on ios 6 so no air drop on that device, we are all using the same apple ID but with separate e-mail addresses and when applicable, phone numbers, no problem with i-message, this is a weird one, anyone found a way to sort this yet?

    Thanks

    Jon

Note that the Contacts Only setting requires that you be logged in to your iCloud account (in the iCloud screen of Settings), as AirDrop uses your iCloud-synced contacts list.

In addition, your device must include the other device’s primary Apple ID in his or her contact record.

That being said, the Apple ID may be where your issue is if you are all sharing the same. That is how it identifies the user has an iOS device. The Fact that it is mixing names and photos means there is more than one identity linked to that Apple ID.

Im having this issue as well. I have 2 children my husband and I all using the same apple id and syncing to the same acount but we all have our own email addresses and phone numbers. I am showing up as my daughter, my husband is showing up as my son and my kids have not updated to iOS 7 yet. With imessage and Facetime ther are settings you can go and choose which addresses to be identified as. Air Drop has no tab in settings. I cannot figure out how to fix it.
