Q: Visual voicemail not working - iphone 5

I've seen this problem posted about a lot but not so much recently. I got a brand new iphone 5 today and it won't connect to Visual Voicemail. I was on the phone for hours with AT&T, and Apple finally told me to return the phone. I upgraded from a 4, and everything was working fine on that. I can dial into voicemail, but messages aren't showing up on my phone. No password prompt, nothing.

Has anyone resolved this recently. I am incredibly frustrated, and afraid that if I bring home another phone it will have the same problem.

I've done all those things, multiple times. I even did a full restore of the phone: nothing.

If you try and call your phone, can you leave a message? If you can, once you go to open up voicemail, it should then prompt you for the password if you not entered it yet. If this does not work, when you were on the phone with AT&T today, did they reset your voicemail on their end. Also, your account has to be provisioned for visual voicemail as well. But again, leaving a message on your voicemail should get you the password prompt.

I can leave a message if I dial in but don't get any password prompts. AT&T told me I was set up for visual voicemail. I'll try to resolve it tomorrow.

What I meant was that if you call your phone like someone else would and leave yourself a test message. If you attempt after that if you tap on the voicemail button on the phone, do you see the password prompt? Do you see an indicator that you have a voicemail if one is left for you? You say that AT&T said you were provisioned for visual voicemail, but did they try and reset that for you. Since voicemail is a carrier function, there isn't much more you can do on the phone end, especially if you have already done a restore.

I can leave myself a voicemail but the only indication on the phone is a missed call notice. I can dial in and hear it but I can't retrieve it from the phone. I really do think it's a carrier issue - I think it's not set up properly. I'll call them when they open and see if I can get anywhere.

ok, new wrinkle. If I turn off LTE, voicemail works. The AT&T guy is trying to see if it's a network issue at their end, but does that mean anything to anyone here?

Yep, it is a network issue on their end.

I have the same issue. However, I have not tried the full restore yet. I have seen that a few people were able to fix it by resetting their voicemail passwords, but when I attempt this and get to the part that says saving password it locks up. When I exit settings from here and return, the previous screen appears, though the password never changes. Thoughts?

got my 5s Friday and still NO visual voicemail. There was a software update 7.0.1 no change. Spent 3 hours on phone with ATT, no resolve but they took off $30 for the problem. Case number and said by Wednesday it will work. I know its ony Tuesday but I been my visual VM. Leave a msg and it does not tell me a VM was left only yhe missed call. Did a restore NO change.  Spent another hour today hoping something will work, nope.

I requested a new PW, plug it in and try to retreive VM, no luck. Record new VM greeting but it will not save. I have 20+ saved VM's nothing load to my phone. Maybe I'll go back to apple store and get a new phone.

Disappointing to get a new product and it just be HOURS of headache.

    Very Disappointed in this product.

Having the same problem. I did find that if I give up on the custom greeting and check the default option, my voicemails appear. I'm not thrilled to use the default, but at least I can see the voicemails now.

Turn it back on and hit the visual voice mail icon. When the prompts come just hit * and then

It should prompt you for the password

Ok I hope that this helps other people as well.  This is what worked for me on my iPhone 5s.  I hit the voicemail I on and it dialed my voicemail, while I was there I changed my password manually, when it hung up i got a prompt to enter the correct voicemail password, after I entered my new password on the prompt my visual voicemail started working.

I had to call AT&T (611) and they had to reset it. Works now.
