Considering it's a multi application issue. the startup disk may need repairng.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs.

Thank you so much for your response. However, it has not solved the problems. Disk Utility said all was good. I also turned off the extensions and restarted my computer. Still no change. My computer is still usable, obviously. But it some functions are either very sluggish or refuse to work and very frustrating!
Any more thoughts?
