I am building a hobby site that opens some maps in a sized window, As most browsers have the option of opening into tabs rather than windows I would like to know what the default setting is for Safari.

Under Preferences / Tabs there is a setting  'Open pages in tabs instead of windows':

From my research I think the defaults are:

Safari 6 - Automatically

Safari 5 - Never

It looks as though it changed between versions 5 and 6. Or maybe it changed between OSX 10.6 and 10.7 ?

If a few users who still have their default settings in place could confirm this to me, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

This is what I could find from googling.

    5.1.10 here - but you're right - it's Never.

    1:  5.1.10 is only available for 10.6.8

2: No - I checked in a Guest account, which starts with new, default settings each time.

I don't have 10.7 or 8 with 5.1 to check, & I'm not sure how the default for an easily altered setting helps - but http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5050 suggests that it was never.

    >>Too much info I know...

Not at all - that & re-reading your first post helped.
