1. Two possibilities:
Export the events from your son's library (File -> Export) to folders in the Finder. Drag those folders to the Users/Shared folder. Then import them to yours.
This User Tip
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Or: use iPhoto Sharing - enable Sharing in his iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the your account. In your account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. His Library will appear in your source pane. You can drag a pic from the Shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
The iPad can only sync with one Library at a time. So get the photos you want into one library and sync from that. If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
Questions about the iPad you'll need to ask on the iPad forum.
Thanks for your help.
I went by the first tip provided by you. I was able to copy "Events" from my son's library in his log in to my library in my log in. The only unfortunate part is that photos do not seem to be getting copied with "Descriptions". So, when I try slide show from my library, the "Details" do not get displayed - without this, it is difficult to figure what the photo is about. Is there a way I can get the "Details" also copied?
Thanks Chief - your other suggestion worked perfectly. I exported events from my son's library directly to shared folder under user as per the link given by you and choosing the option suggested for ensuring transfer of metadata. Went to my login and imported these events from shared folder. Bingo! Slides how comes with descriptions.
Thanks a lot again.
