It always amazes me that people expect their old Macs running old versions of Mac OS X to run each and every new fangled thing that is released today and thereafter!

maupini gave you one workaround, but you are still not satisfied.

Wow, don't take this so personal...

In case you did not notice, I was repeating YOUR vernacular both times.  So maybe YOU should not take this so personal!

I could expand upon dwb's precise description in response to your continued dilemna about Windows (go get a Windoze computer for Cheese sake!), but given your own response to your OP:

Apple are you listening?  Add this feature for 10.6.8!  This is not acceptable to add a feature to XP but not 10.6  10.6 is much newer than XP!

Making poor decisions like this going to drive your mac users to buy pc laptops.

If Apple never released 10.6.9 to incorporate iCloud, the lack of iTunes v11.1 support in Snow Leopard is not going to cause any lost sleep over there either!

If you really wanted to gripe about something missing from Snow Leopard, how about the Internet security features incorporated into v6 of Safari???

Besides, you can always go over to Alfredo's and listen to Spotify...

I think it would take a lot more than that to ever get me to buy a PC laptop :-)

I use Chrome, ditched Safari a log time ago... :-)

I can understand not upgrading to Lion, like Leopard it was a change with lots of rough edges. Mt Lion smoothed out lots of the rough spots.

Wow.. I find this very interesting. I remember the complaints about Leopard and how SnowLeopard fixed all the problems with leopard and took up much less space.

This makes me feel a little better about MtLion.

Anybody know if older apps like Logic Pro 8 will work with ML?

I'm running Logic Express right now on SL. That is my main concern about moving to ML. But I do know that the new Logic Pro X does not support SL, so if I want to upgrade that (new purchase actually), I will need ML.

Although I have no personal experience with LP8, I have reviewed a considerable number of posts on this subject. A summary of those posts are:

Logic Pro 8 does function in Mountain Lion but it needs to be completely installed BEFORE the upgrade to Mountain Lion.

It has nothing to do the age of the OS. It is becuse even after 12 years and three upgrades by microsoft, Windows XP is still more popular then every verion of Mac OS COMBINED. Despite a protracted effort by Microsoft to get people to upgrade, about 37% of the computers on the internet still use XP!

Compare that to a <2% market share for Snow Leopard. It should be no surprise that Apple choses to support XP. They would be crazy not to.

And if Apple's OS upgrades were so expensive, confusing and horrible that half of their users were still on an 12-year old version of OS X, you can bet apple would probably support it. Thankfully Apple's OS upgrades are cheap and quite painless, so most of the installed base has long ago moved on to newer things.

Quite sad for those of us still left behind, but the logic behind it is reasonable.

Now if only 10.8+ would support rosetta so I could move forward....

Did you mean to say "completely UN-installed"? If so, that would hurt me (I have 5 song packs and some of them are hard to install because they require rosetta)... And I don't have parallels :-)  I guess the installers on these DVDs are old. I paid $100 per pack. and I use a lot of them in existing songs.

I plan to intall ML on an external drive soon. I just ordered an 8GB USB stick and found instructions on how to create a bootable USB and put the ML dmg on it. Next I need to create a partition on one of my external FW drives. I just want to install it to see if my stuff works with it.

    Thanks

No: if there are any optional components to install, NOW is the time to completely install them!

Cool. It is already installed. I've been using it for years. I just want it to keep working when/if I upgrade to Mountain Lion. Is the problem the actual "intaller"?

    Thanks

The installer for Logic Pro 8 seems to suffer from the same "bug" that affects the installers for Final Cut Pro 6, Final Cut Express 3.5 and Final Cut Studio 2 in Lion and Mt. Lion.

"Bug" is a polite way of describing the problem...

It turns out my MacBook is to old for ML...any idea if migration to a newer laptop will wrk?
