By docked do you mean it thinks it's hooked up to my computer? That is the only device I have ever plugged my phone into other than the wall outlet. And when the issue started with my phone it wasn't plugged into anything. I have no airplay devices and my phone can't connect to its own hotspot (at least I've never figured out how to do that if it's possible).

Yes, plug your phone in to your charger. Just close itunes if it opens up. Plug in your head phones and play your music. While the music is playing unplug your phone from the charger. I haven't tried this on my pc yet but the trick is to make the phone use the head phone speakers while you disconnect. Then it should allow you to use the sound again.

try finding someone with a usb wall charger for your phone, you just have to trick it into thinking it's not docked

I just had this same issue when I updated a 4S to iOS 7.  It turned out that the docking connector had corrosion on it which made the phone think it was docked. Get a flashlight and look and see if there is any bluegreen crud or excess debris on the connector. If so clean the connector, possibly with a clean dry and soft toothbrush.

It looks like we all of the same problem, and there is no permananet fix.  Plugging the headphone jack in and out once restores sound for a while, but it inevitably fails again within 5 minutes to 8 hours.  My own problems started 6 weeks ago in os6, I was hoping upgrading to seven would fix the issue, but this phone is now offically a piece of junk.

I really would not be surprised at all to learn that this is how we are being nudged to upgrade.  My contract is up, its more than time to ditch both Apple and ATT.

I too cleaned my dock connector with rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush.  I first dug a bunch of lint out with a paperclip.  Right after I cleaned it, music started playing.  Thanks topspot101!

I am having a similar issue and I have a 5. I can't connect my music from my phone to my apple tv. Any ideas out there?

Unfortunately I have tried all of the suggestions on this thread and none of them have worked. So it looks like I will have to drive at least an hour round trip to sit at someplace that has public wifi. This will probably be the last apple product I ever own all due to this one problem this one time and the only solutions apple itself have offered me all cost more money and more time than the products are actually worth.

I'm having the same problem. My phone worked perfectly fine before the update. I have tried every single suggestion in this thread and have had no results. If i bring up the controls directly after using siri, I can see that it thinks it's using airplay, but I don't even have airplay downloaded. I try and switch it to iphone instead of iphone speaker, and it won't let me. My side buttons wont work for volume, won't even bring up the bell and bar. The volume slider when music is playing is grey. I can get ringtones, and every once in a while I'll get a message tone or charging tone. I've been trying to fix this now for over 48 hours. HELP!

Exact same problem! Everything worked perfectly fine until updated to iOS 7. Now none of my audio works. Music,  videos, ringers, alerts, nothing works! I use my phone as my alarm and this is just bonkers that it doesn't work! I have tried everything listed to no avail! Does anyone know a permanent fix? Ease fix this apple!
