Sep 21, 2013 2:17 AM in response to WATP1872by Alley_Cat,No, the cable is required if it's bricked.
Either see if you can buy or get a cable from a friend, or maybe take it to an Apple store if you have one nearby.
Send feedback about lack of a supplied cable:

Sep 21, 2013 6:33 PM in response to WATP1872by Mattdef11,Hi WATP
I might be able to save you a journey - had the same problem - the cable it actually wants is just a standard micro USB. Connect it to your PC/mac and run iTunes and it enters some form of restore and upgrade mode - I'm doing it right now...

Sep 21, 2013 6:39 PM in response to WATP1872by Helvetiaromandie,I had the exact same issue with my Apple TV 3rd Generation. I went today to an apple store and they gave me a new device since it was still under warranty. But now I'm back to the oldest version with my new device! I'm going to wait for a while until Apple fix their update. I'm afraid that if I upgrade now I will get the same problem.

Sep 21, 2013 6:48 PM in response to WATP1872by Mattdef11,So quick update - connecting it to the PC with the micro USB and then restoring it in iTunes corrected the problem AND updated it to the latest version - unfortunately I did lose my settings so had to input iTunes acct details and re-pair it with my iPad
But saves a trip to the apple store!

Sep 21, 2013 6:57 PM in response to Mattdef11by kochnotthefascist,Having the same issue with USB and iTunes logo. This is completely idiotic by apple. An absolute fail, now my only thought is that I'm going to buy a Roku when I get this new cable to fix the product they broke.
