Q: Can I change my iCloud email in iOS 7?

I just installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. My iCloud account used to be linked to an old email address, I had changed it to the new email address long before updating to iOS 7 and everything worked great. Now on iOS 7, it's displaying the old email for whatever reason, which I obviously can't use to log in anymore. I also can't seem to type in my current email.

Is there any way to get around this?

OK, this is all good info, but if, like me, you no longer have access to the old email address that your iCloud account is tied to after the iOS7 upgrade, you can't change your Apple ID back to that because you can't verify it. So what are people like me supposed to do?

Fear not, I figured it out. After storming around Apple support in a frustrated panic, I finally found a link that led to a link that led to the fix. Essentially, you need to go into iMessage or FaceTime settings and asscoiate (or unassociate & reassociate again) them with your Applie ID. At that point you will have to enter your Apple ID and password (the current one), and that seems to change the password tied to your obsolete iCloud ID. You can then use your current Apple ID password in iCloud in order to Delete the iCloud account that is tied to obsolete ID. Then, once deleted, sign in again to iCloud using your current Apple ID and password and all will be well in the universe again (as long as you're not dizzy from the circuitous path to the solution).

Here's the Apple Support link that gave me to key to this fix:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5223

    Cheers!

FYI, I got to it from this link under iCloud support:

Nope. I did this and my iCloud settings still show the wrong email address, which cannot be changed, and contrary to what they're claiming there is no way to sign out or delete iCloud.

I have the same problem! And I cannot access my old email since it has been disable, and that's why I need to change my apple ID into a new email. However, I simply cannot signout my icloud from my old email as the ID, after I update to iOS7. I've tried every method I read on this forum, none of them works for me. I've call apple support, and all they ask me to do is the same as mentioned in this forum, helpless. Apple, please solve this issue!

Not sure why it isn't working for you, perhaps my explanation was not clear. I was in your same position until I followed the support links I listed above to reset iMessage to use my Apple ID, which I had to reenter the current password for.

Once that was done, I went back to Settings->iCloud, which still showed my invalid email address as user ID. I then scrolled all the way to the bottom and pressed the Delete Account button. Before the iMessage step above (accesed via Settings->Messages->Send & Receive->Apple ID), the Delete Account would not accept my current password. After iMessage connection to my current Apple ID was set and the current password was entered, the Delete Button on iCloud then accepted my password even though it still showed it was linked to the old email address. When I deleted the account, it asked about deleting the data. You need to delete the data on iCloud, and that will rid you of the old email linkage. Once deleted, go back into Settings->iCloud and sign in again with your current Apple ID and password.

This is what I had to do, but it definetly has worked for me. My iCloud now shows my current Apple ID.

I'm sorry if these exact steps do not work for you, I don't know what to tell you. They worked for me.

    Good luck!

Thanks for explaning the steps again. I did follow the same steps, but it just didn't work for my ios7. I've been using iphone since the first generation, and there is no issue before, until the ios7 update. I am so disappointed. I contacted the Apple Support, they spent 1 hour on the phone and asked me to tried various approaches, none of them working. They opened a case number, and asked me to contact them again if I cann't solve it by myself. It seems the Find My Iphone security really mess up my case. I hope apple can be more considerable and detailed as before when Jobs still there.

I have a potential extra step that may help you watsonx, as well as others having this problem - I had it too. As you did, I followed droidalunit's (thank you btw) fix, but it didn't get me all the way either.

What I ended up doing probably reveals a security flaw but I'm hoping and trusting that only those trying to right their OWN devices utilize this work around - please.

As I said I did as droidalunit said to do, I signed in with my valid account (which was in no way connected previously to the old, invalid account that I was stuck with on iCloud) into iMessages and FaceTime - but I still could delete the old account. What I did then was to go to the Apple website (https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/)  hit 'Manage My Account' and signed-in with my valid Apple ID. Then I clicked on the 'edit' button to edit my 'Apple ID and Primary Email Address'. I then change this the the old invalid email address/Apple ID. I could then go and turn off Find My iPhone and delete that iCloud account, after deleting, I signed back into the Apple site and changed my Apple ID back, then signed into iCloud with my valid Apple ID. And now all is right w/ the world... well, at least with my phone anyway :)

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

Typo: "-but I still *couldn't* delete the old account."

    Wow, I suck at typing...

Also: "I then *changed* this *to* the old invalid email address/Apple ID."

    Ironboots

You are a true legend - this workaround WORKS where all other failed for this frustrating problem that got me also.

Big Thankyou for posting!  Can finally get on with using IOS7 to its full potential.

Hi, Ironboots, this method works for my case! I am so happy that the mess is gone. Thanks to all the folks, especially Ironboots and Droidalunit.

Glad this worked for you watsonx, and Swaneeee. Just dumb luck on my part figuring it out though. Had to pass it on - I know I was really frustrated w/ Apple and iOS 7 until it was fixed.

None of this information works for me. When I go into iCloud in Settings it still has my old ID (email). If I put my old password in it won't accept it and the old ID cannot be changed.

I've tried everything everyone has suggested on my iPad...  I can't even erase all the data from my iPad b/c it asks for the old icloud account password connected to an old email account I no longer have access too.

    Incredibly frustrating!!

I did NOT update my iPhone thank God, but the prompting already synced to my iPhone asking for that old apple id password...

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.

If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account.  You can either go to https://expresslane.apple.com, select "More Products and Services", then "Apple ID", then  on the next page select "Other Apple ID Topics", then "Lost or forgotten Apple ID password" and click "Continue"; or you can contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).
