Cleaning dock connector help to me also. I recommend to everyone who have problems shake with connector during charging and watch if volume bar appear. If yes then clean your dock connector with brush and alcohol, or ask your nearest certified Apple service for it.

Is strange that this problem comes with iOS7, but looks like hardware problem. Probably iOS7 is more sensitive for detection if your phone is in dock. I think dirt, corrosion, may be non accuracy after fall on the ground is behind this problem. Hopefully Apple will identify it and go to us with some official help.

Same here. Remove app(s) that causes problems. Restart, re-install and that did the trick for me.

mind telling me what kind of apps that you uninstall and reinstall? is it music related? my phone has been mute for the past 2 days. not happy.

It seems to me that it is a software bug

    I tried many many things including re-installing IOS7 .

I believe the best thing to do is fill in feedback forms as in the downward trail several people have done

It also drives me crazy , I think it has to do with certain hardware. My kids have also iphones 4s but most likely from a different batch since they do not experience any issues .

Only if we all fill in the feedback form it will get apples attention . Complaining here doesn't help unfortunately ;-(

is there anybody that has had a reply from apple at all?  with a fix?

It seems this bug has affected many Iphone 4s devices.  In my office alone I know 4 people reporting the same issue .   The weird part is that it comes and goes . I have not been able to find a sequence that gives back the sound..  It also disappears randomly almost I can not assign it to any app or any special internet activity.

I tried most of the stuff as decribed in this post and some of the other posts .

I have not been able to find one post that gives a real solution and to me this is a real bug most likely hardware related with a certain "batch " of iphones 4S utilizing certain hardware .

My kids have later versions of the iphone 4s and they dont have any issues at all.

Ok so this is what I have figured out. It's not my connector port. Completely clean. It's not any of my apps as I have removed all of them that I can. I did notice, however, that when my phone is connected to my truck via Bluetooth, the phone thinks I have airplay. What is airplay? Now it won't allow me to switch to airplay, but is this my issue? Is this the reason my phone is jacked up right now? How do I get rid of it?

the only thing i figured out is that if the normal sound options go and you reconnect to an ORIGINAL apple power cord it sometimes comes back - but again this is not stable and sometimes it doesn';t work

That's all I have is original power cords. Do I need to plug my phone into my truck to switch it from Bluetooth to airplay? That is the only time it says anything about airplay.

I also have the sound problem on my iPhone 4.  No sound at all.  Not even when plugging in my headset. Videos would not play.  Phone ringer dit not sound.  Youtube did not work.

When recording a video it would start recording and then would not let me stop the recording.  I had to shut down the phone to stop the recording.  Normal reboot also did not fix my problem.

I then did the two finger reboot. Hold the on and home button in until you see the Apple.  Keep holding it in until the screen goes black.  Now switch it on normally.  After this reboot everything started working.  The phone once asked me permission to use the microphone.  Cant remember which app.  Think it was YouTube.  But now every single feature works, even after locking and unlocking.

After normal rebooting the problem was back!**$$##!  Tried the two finger reboot again.  Did not fix it.  I still have the problem.  I think I will go back to iOS 6 until someone comes up with a solution.

I dont have this problem on my iPad

    Some times works another not.

How much time do you think Apple will give us an answer?

Well I've been to apple store today due to the no sound issue on iOS 7. Seems the connection between the speakers and logiboard (or something like that) did not work so Theyve replaced phone as was still under warranty.

This new phone is on old iOS so am not upgrading to 7.0 until I have to.

My issue goes beyond just a speaker connection. I have no sound but also no vibration, no mic (voice memos app can't hear me) and no headset sound.

    Arrg.

Hey Apple. If you are listening. We need a fix. Never to soon for a 7.0.1

Tried everything: closing all apps, assistive touch, music app opening and closing, safari tabs closing, cleaning connector, put headphones in and out Sith several software settings. Nothing works. And sometimes i recieve à message and my iPhone gives half a sound. Really weird! Apple, update please, getting crazy! I know al lot of people with the same problems!

Had same symptoms on my iPad (3rd gen) after getting it wet. It was trying to send audio to the dock instead of the speakers.  Other sound effects were coming through normal. Technician opened it, inspected, cleaned out the docking port and the problem was resolved.

Go to the Control Screen. Click on Air Play. Make certain "iPhone" is selected, not "Apple TV". I had somehow activated Apple TV when I was exploring the new software and it scared me thinking the update screwed up my phone.  Hope this helps someone else!
