If your screen remains blank when you start it, you may need to reset the phone, or restore the software. Try this first:
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that does not get the screen going, then backup your device, and restore it.
