Sep 2, 2013 4:27 AM in response to Steve711by JamesUUESS,Steve,
I've been using iPad I for a long time now, and the system has only just started losing my notes
WHAT A SHOCKER!
I say again, WHAT A SHOCKER!
That means I've said goodbye to some really important stuff, because I hadn't backed up anywhere. Stupid me.
But how come Apple haven't nailed this one for George W Bushes sake.
Now, having learned the hard way, each time I write a note I immediately email it to my Yahoo! Email account, and then save that eMail into a new folder I have named Notes.
Wow!

Sep 4, 2013 5:38 PM in response to JamesUUESSby ARRazorback,If you have a Yahoo email account, check your folders, but not in any mobile view. Do this even if you didn't create any folders. For some reason, which I can not explain, the notes that disappeared from my iPhone were in a folder called notes.
This action has repeated 3 times, but not every time. The first time it happened it moved about 3/4 of my notes with no real pattern.
I have no idea why, but everybody's lost notes may be in a web mail account somewhere.

Sep 4, 2013 8:00 PM in response to ARRazorbackby JamesUUESS,AH HA!
Thank you ARRazorback. I will check on the Mac as soon as I get a chance. VERY INTERESTING.
When I was in the process of creating the new NOTES folder in Yahoo!, the system would not accept the name I was trying to give to the new folder, I.e. NOTES. The system advised that a folder with that name already existed. Strange I thought because I had never created a folder in Yahoo! with that name, and such a folder was not visible in my folder list. I put it down to some developer techo using that name for whatever reason and hiding it away in the system, and therefore giving me some contention when trying to use the same folder name.
I named my folder 'NOTES 2' and moved on.
Now I'm looking forward to doing as you say. Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
Thanks very much for the lead.

Sep 4, 2013 11:10 PM in response to ARRazorbackby JamesUUESS,Well ARRazorback, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Thanks again.
You are correct.
Magically I have a folder named 'Notes' in my Yahoo! account visible when I actually log directly into my Yahoo! account either on the iPad or on the Mac. At no time have I ever created this folder. The folder however is not visible when I use the iPad's Apple Mail application.
All my lost notes are there. Every one of my iPad notes from the iPad Notes application are visible as an individual email in that Yahoo! folder. Even the notes that are still accessible in my iPad Notes can be viewed in my magic Yahoo! 'Notes' folder.
THIS REALY IS UNBELIEVABLE. I don't understand.
Is this something that Apple has documented somewhere and that I haven't found?
Do all the people on this thread know that this happens, and that if they are lucky their lost notes may also be stored back on their eMail application, either in the Cloud or on the Mac/PC? If not, then how do we alert them to this possibility?
Cheers
Jim

Sep 5, 2013 12:02 AM in response to katyrealestateby JamesUUESS,I'm running an IPad I and OS 5.1.1 - when you get into Settings/Notes the only thing you can see or change are three font options.
However I have magically found through the help of this discussion support thread that my notes have been backing up in a Notes folder in my Yahoo! Email account.
Cheers

Sep 5, 2013 12:07 AM in response to kenikkyby JamesUUESS,Since you copied your notes back into Notes, have they disappeared again?

Sep 5, 2013 1:40 AM in response to JamesUUESSby Qxz1572,OK, I haven't read all the comments here, so forgive me if I’m duplicating what’s gone before.
Anyhow, I was taking notes at a presentation last night on an iPhone. Every so often, the notes disappeared.
Annoying to say the least, particularly as with a goldfish memory, I wouldn't remember what I had hear the following morning. All notes found in gmail inbox. Have no clue why these notes were automatically mailed and deleted and older notes remain intact. But, at least I found my notes.
Assume a problem either with notes or gmail or possibly some setting somewhere that I can’t find!

Sep 5, 2013 4:45 PM in response to ARRazorbackby kenikky,Your advice is spot on....For anyone that has lost their notes, go to settings on your iPad, under general look for notes, select notes and it will take you to your default email account. If you have more than one email account set up on your iPad, you would have chosen one as the default account. Your notes are stored in the folder that is automatically created in the default email account. You can not access the notes folder using the email app on the iPad, you have to log into your mail email account. If your default email account is AOL, the notes folder is in the drop down list in "My Folders". Sometimes the "My Folder" list needs to be expanded to show the Notes folder. In Yahoo, the notes folder should be visible in the list on the left when you log in to your mail.
You can then copy and paste all of your lost notes back into the notes app on the iPad.

Sep 5, 2013 5:00 PM in response to kenikkyby JamesUUESS,The difficulty with the Notes app is that it is still being automatically stripped of notes without the user's consent.
You say you copy backed up notes from your email Notes folder back into your eMail iPad Notes app.
My question is, do they remain there permanently from then or are they again removed to the email Notes folder?

Sep 5, 2013 5:04 PM in response to JamesUUESSby kenikky,JamesUUESS, yes, they disappeared once, and I repeated the process of copying and pasting again com my Yahoo "Notes" folder. One other thing that I've done is to use my AudioNotes app, and I copy/paste each new note there. If my notes disappear from the notes app and I need to view them quickly, it's just a matter of going to my AudioNotes app, and voilà, there they are. No need to login to my Yahoo account. I can copy/paste my notes back to my notes app if I want to straight from my AudioNotes app!!!

Sep 20, 2013 4:19 PM in response to ohmitmediaby SpiderAVFC,ARRazorback and JamesUUESS, thank you for that info, I have signed into my yahoo a/c from my iPad and there indeed is the notes folder and all my randomly missing notes!
Why on Earth have apple set something up like that, yet its not made common knowledge?
I wish I had thought to check here sooner, I actually thought it was because my iCloud storage was almost at 5gb as it seemed to be my more recent notes that were disappearing each time.
So I went and bought more but it has still been happening which made me think there was something fishy going on, lo and behold it's some bizarre, illogical apple Gremlin!!
-
Sep 20, 2013 4:25 PM in response to SpiderAVFCby ARRazorback,I turned off iCloud syncing my notes to Yahoo to see if it stops them from disappearing.
