The reason I say this is because apples TouchID technology is based on RF technology that reads the sub-dermal layers of your finger. Apple could easily increase the time the reader takes to read the finger print for a more accurate reading. Currently apple chose the 'convenient' route and made the iPhone read the finger print as fast as possible. Also perhaps increasing the power output from the TouchID (RF output) can make the TouchID reader more accurate from a depth perspective (deeper sub-dermal skin layers).
Purely speculative though.
