Q: iOS 7 defaulting to old iCloud email address and I can not remove it or reset

Hi, since up-dating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7, iCloud shows (greyed out) my old email address used for my Apple ID.

Becuase of the new 'Find My iPhone' feature I can not remove it or reset it. I'm asked for a password but of course that old password is not assocaited to an active account anymore.

I backed up to latest iTunes but again becuase of the new feature I am unable to reset and restore from back up my iPhone without that old inactive password. My old password will not work becuase I have a new iCloud / Apple ID email address.

I am also unable to sign in to iMessage using my Apple ID, keeps telling me to check my network connection, which is fine. I assume Apple servers just in major overdrive with downloads, or is the problem connected to my main issue above?

Anyone else getting the same problem? Anyone got a fix?

Thanks

Chris

Had the same issue but my old email adress was disabled, luckely, it reffered to the same account as my current iCloud/Apple ID, so this is how I managed to fix it:

    1. Deleted my device from my iCloud account @ www.icloud.com/find

    2. Forced the iPhone to Recovery mode and restored with iTunes (latest version)

    3. Started iPhone as "new phone" logged on to my iCloud with my current Apple ID

    4. DONE!

    Hope this helps...

hi, im really not technically minded, iv read through a lot of threads about ios7, & old e-mail address , why is everyone taking about old accounts, surely with the new ios7, your e-mail/ apple id should be the same??, or am I missing something?

My problem is I keep having a message come up on my iphone (4s) to verify my account ,when I go into view it, it is all gray and at the top there is a little spinning wheel & it says "verifying", & at the bottom it will allow me to "delete account".

Now it gets confusing, where it says "account not verified" check your e-mail at.......... it has my husbands e-mail account? then icloud account states my e-mail address, totally confused dot com!!

we want the same e-mail address & the same apple id, but when ios6 was out , my friend set up Facetime, & screwed our phones up, my husband got everything of mine streamed to his phone, for example every new photo I took, when he charged his phone he got my photos, all his messages, calls i got, somehow he linked the two phones & it seemed mine was the primary, the only way he found to stop this was to delete my e-mail & set up his own e-mail address.

He hasn't completed the new ios7, only I have, & im very frustrated about this message that keeps coming up every time I go on my phone, has anyone got any ideas please? Thanks in advance Katy.

Hi, I was just curious if you were able to fix your issue. I know how frustrating it can be to get duplicate advice, so I apologize if you have already tried this or it doesn't work for you. It appears to be a problem with the find my phone feature. I have an iphone 4 and when I updated it did the same thing. The old email was no longer in service so I couln't use it. But one thing that may have worked in my favor, is the fact that I never turned on "find my phone" on the old IOS version, so I was able to delete my icloud account and then the email wasn't "greyed out" and I typed in my new email and password and it went through. All that being said, lengthy as it was, I was wondering if it would let you restore your phone to back to before you updated it and go into your settings under the old IOS and turn off the find my phone. Then do the update and when it comes back on, it should let you delete the old email like I did above. I really hope you are able to do this. I know what a pain it is.

@Kristena67 Alas no, my issue reamins! I've tried everything possible. Apple suggest my issue is isolated which I doubt given the number of handsets in circulation.

Apple support have again promised me a call back and fix today (day 6) and I am still waiting to hear and beginning to think another failed promise is imminent, i.e. hearing back without my need to chase!

At this rate I'll be gunning for a replacement handset under the sales and goods act given my iPhone 5 is less than a year old and deemed unfit to deliver it's features. Hope it doesn't come to that though.

i finallly managed to  delete the old icloud account.

Log in to your apple account using your current email. Manage your account &  edit the primary email address with your previous email address. It will ask you to verify email address, ignore it for now.

Log in iTunes using the old email account, it will mention there were changes to your iTunes account and click ok.

Go to setting, icloud, turn off find my iphone. It will prompt out password. It can accept your current password, as you have change the email address to your old email address address. Click ok when Term & condition notification & click agree.

Then you can delete the icloud account.

Log in and manage back your apple id. Edit back your primary address & verify email. At icloud setting, you can then create a new account.

    Hope this works for you.

correction, after changing your email address to your previous email at manage apple id. Go to App Store not iTunes, and log in using your previous email address.

Click ok when it says changes have been to your email address. And then, you can turn off find my iphone.

Dazzle143 you're a star :-) I used in part your info whilst also hiring someone to re-establish my old company email host/service to pull through a verification from Apple. A move I started a couple of days ago once I realised Apple Support love my money but not helping to fix a fault they created and inconvienced me.

Anyways.... all appears to be good now, save for my first time downer on Apple. Damaged forever it is! I've read about peoples frustrations with thier support... I now have first hand expereince, it *****! My gripe is less about the problem itself, technical issues can happen... it's how they handled it. Judge a person or firm by how they get out of trouble, less on how they got into trouble! Promised call backs, never happened!. Ignored followed up's and emails chasing for a prgress report (plenty of them).

I've wasted over 14 hours of my life to this rubbish over the past week.... anyhoo, my cry is over and hopefully with their projected $36billion income on the new iPhones at 36% margin, they decide to put some of that profit into support... I was taught a long time ago in busines "Don't bite the hand that feeds you!" I'm afraid I won't be up-grading from hereon. They've convinced me to check out the competition now. Sour grapes - you bet I have :-(

Cheers everyone for your contributions and helpful advice. Really appreciated.
