Sep 21, 2013 7:40 PM in response to mickey49by laserski,After messing around with it, I found that reinstalling 10.8.5 (OS) and then upgrading to iTunes 11.1 fixed my issue.

Sep 21, 2013 8:58 PM in response to mickey49by Linc Davis,If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

Sep 22, 2013 8:02 AM in response to mickey49by Admang,I have started experiencing the same issue with my Mini Mac, does anyone have a solution for this issue? I have went to System Pref > Sound > it shows SHARP HDMI but there is no sound after the computer goes to sleep. The internal speakers work fine but the HDMI sound doesn't. Is this an update issue?

Sep 22, 2013 8:17 AM in response to Admangby laserski,Re-apply the combo 10.8.5 update and try again. You might also check iTunes and update it to 11.1 if you need to. It worked for me.

Sep 25, 2013 4:16 AM in response to mickey49by 10,000 Angry Vegans,Same problem. Essentially, no sound on 10.8.5 on a Mac Mini when returning from sleep.
Problem arose straight after the iTunes 11.1 upgrade.
Reinstalling 10.8.5 did not fix it for me. Only solution is to restart, at which point it magically starts working again.

Sep 27, 2013 10:49 AM in response to ohadmitby 10,000 Angry Vegans,Seems like it's a known bug.
Can you and anyone else with this same issue please click the "I have this question too" link in the OP, as a larger number of complainants may help make it a more obvious blip on Apple's radar.
Thanks and fingers crossed

Sep 27, 2013 12:24 PM in response to mickey49by Linc Davis,From other reports, it seems to be a bug. The workaround is not to let the machine sleep.

Sep 30, 2013 10:38 AM in response to mickey49by kharisma,★HelpfulThis is not just a Mac Mini problem. I've found comments from people with all kinds of Mac, with any kind of external sound device, who all have this same issue.
The common factor is Mountain Lion.
Apparently there is a new build (12F42) which is supposed to fix this.
http://www.gadgetguide4u.com/new-os-x-1085-build-number-12f42.html
Apple released it to their employees on the 25th Sept.
Yet they don't even seem to have told their support people about it. My local apple store replaced my Mac Mini just on Sunday, because they didn't know why it was behaving like that. Needless to say, the new one has the same problem.
Here's hoping that build is available soon ...

Sep 30, 2013 3:15 PM in response to kharismaby Admang,After talking with the support team I was still having the sound issue. So I decided to take Laserski advice and download the 10.8.5 combo update and after a week of attempting download the software it finally worked. After installing the 10.8.5 combo I have not experienced loss of sound. Additionally, I reinstalled the new I-Tunes. I hope this helps.

Oct 4, 2013 7:37 AM in response to mickey49by bokone,I have the same problem. Yes, a restart brings back the HDMI audio (the internal speaker was always working too), but it only lasts until it goes to sleep for a long period...usually overnight...then same no audio issue. I took it in to an Apple store and after 2 days they told me "no hardware issues". No kidding, hardware problems are rarely solved by a restart!!! Some software update is causing this...and Apple needs to fix it!!
