Q: Under the 'advanced' tab, none of the drop down menus are openable and I can't type in any of the boxes

I get as far as trying to add a printer in system preferences but I can'y input any of the printer details.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

I am having this exact same problem and it is beyond frustrating. Seems the print utility in Mountain Lion has never worked at all for me, I've tried for months to get my windows shared printer working on my MacBook Air and I am still unable. I attempted to start from scratch but lo and behold I now can not even access any options within the advanced tab, everything is gray and unclickable.

CONTROL-click in the Printers window, Print & Fax prefPane, and reset the printing system.
