Q: How sync iPhone Calendar back to Google calendar?

(1) Events I add to the iPhone Calendar app or the Mac OS X Calendar app do not get synced to the Google calender I view at https://www.google.com/calendar. However:

(2) Events do sync back and forth between my iPhone Calendar app and the Mac OS X Calendar app -- via iCloud: if I add or delete an event on one, it adds or deletes on the other.

(2) Events added to Google calendar at https://www.google.com/calendar opened in Safari do get synced to my iPhone Calendar app and to my Mac's own Calendar app.

How do I fix (1)?

Settings:

On Mac, iCloud Preferences:

  • Calendars & Reminders is checked.

On Mac, Calendar Preferences > Accounts:

  • iCloud account is enabled with Push, and
  • GMail account enabled with Refresh Calendars set Every 5 minutes.

On iPhone, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts:

  • iCloud account has Calendars set On;
  • GMail account has Calendars set On.

What else is there to do? or to change?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion, 3.4GHz Corei7, 16GB, SSD + 2T HD

And now I need to see the following 2 shots.

On your Mac, (Open calendar for these) Calendar Preferences>General

On the phone: Settings>Mail Contacts Calendars>>Accounts & Mail Contacts Calendars>Calendars>Default Calendar

    The end is close

OK, it's working now. Ditto adding an event on the iPhone Calendar app gets that event synced to the Google web calendar.

My basic misconception was that having also the iCloud account syncing of calendars would give an extra measure of back-up; but apparently that just prevented syncing back from Mac Calendar & iOS Calendar to the Google web calendar. Not that that makes total sense to me, but so be it.

Again, thanks for your patience, Csound1.

    You're welcome.

It's not easy to 'double up' on the calendars, if you used iCloud as the primary instead of Gmail you could publish the iCloud calendar to Gmail and see them both at the Gmail website, I find it easier to look in the app (I run an iCloud and an Exchange calendar so I got used to it)

One simple thing I should mention is that both the Mac and the iPhone allow you to color code the calendars, it helps when more than one is in use.

CSound1 - thanks for this information. I was trying to sync my wife's IPAD calendar with my Google calendar so we could have a unified electronic family calendar (I'm trying real hard to get her off of paper!). All of the documentation sounded easy and it was if I just wanted the IPAD to display the Google calendar. I tried every way possible to get the IPAD to give up it's information to Google.  Now I spent 40 years in the computer world and I'm still pretty technical so, needless to say, I was getting very frustrated. Your one screen that showed setting the IPAD to use the Google calendar as the primary calendar instantly solved my problem. THANK YOU

Thanks a lot Csound1. Reading though your early replies in this thread I "got it" after months of not really understanding what was happening.  Thanks to you I quickly reconfigured multiple devices and everything is working coherently.

    THANK YOU

I'm sorry, but I did not understand what needed to be changed in order for sync iphone->google will work.

If someone can explain it, that would be great.

My google calendar syncs to the iphone, but not back. I have icloud syncing option on.

    Thanks,

    Dan

iCloud has nothing to do with Google.

On your phone, which account calendar are you entering the events in?

Start your own thread, this one is old, and solved.

It is also for Macs, not iPhones.

    Wanna try again?

Hi Csound1. You seem to be very patient and helpful. I have followed this whole thread as I have the same problem. However, if I use google as default calendar in my phone, there are no more events to see. I have several icloud calendars and would like to push one in particular to google calendar. zyou mentioned publishing icloud to google. Perhaps therein lies my solution, but how?

    Hello Csound1 and murrayE

From screen shots you both posted, and the clarity of your conversations, I am I am happy to say that all my calendars are syncing.  I have a very complex setup and an iPhone with iOS 9.3.2 so am really happy that this thread, as long as it is, had ALL the pertinent info!
