Sep 25, 2013 11:29 AM in response to Csound1by Jewelz358,Oh how interesting. I just realized the MacBook Pro I walk around with is older, and was bequeathed to us by a friend. I have one I purchased myself in 2009 that is connected to a flatscreen in my office.
So if what you are saying is true -- the MacBook Pro I have at my office which IS 2009, could be upgraded to Lion.... I will have to call Apple when I'm there next and talk to them about it.
Sorry about that.

Sep 25, 2013 11:54 AM in response to Csound1by midgett,I've realised that there were a number (around 1500) mails in the icloud section of the mailbox. I have emptied all. There's now about 85,000 mails in my in box and sent box but on the mac. I tried to archive the sent box on my desktop but all that has arrived there is an empty file

It can be upgraded to Mountain Lion (10.8.5 currently) which you can buy from the Mac App Store, no need to call Apple.

When your complimentary iCloud storage upgrade expires in 3 days, your iCloud storage will be automatically adjusted to the free 5 GB plan. You are currently using 10.14 GB of storage. iCloud Backup, Documents in the Cloud, and iCloud Mail will temporarily stop working on September 30, 2013, unless you reduce the amount of storage you are using or purchase a storage plan. despite deleting everything in my iCloud section in Mail. I can't purchase more storage without an upgrade to my OS so am caught between two stools. Do I face having to delete tens of thousands of emails before the 30th? Anybody??

You say that you have deleted everything in your iCloud section in mail, and then ask if you must delete "tens of thousands of emails"
If you have already deleted them (as you say) I don't see how you can delete them again.
In short you are not making much sense.

Sep 27, 2013 12:14 PM in response to Csound1by midgett,I have deleted everything in the 'icloud' section of the mailbox. I have also deleted around 20,000 mails in the last month from the regular inbox. I still have around 68,000 left. However, I have now shifted most of those into a new mailbox 'on my mac', so hopefully that will sort it

Sep 27, 2013 12:26 PM in response to midgettby Csound1,How many emails are in iCloud now, (go to the website and look there)

Sep 27, 2013 12:48 PM in response to Csound1by midgett,25,000. I can move more if it doesn't sort it, but there's around a quarter of what there once were

Sep 27, 2013 12:56 PM in response to midgettby Csound1,Right click on the Mailbox they are in (or mailboxes) from within Mail, select export and a copy (or copies) of the mailbox will be placed on the desktop. Delete all iCloud mail (once you have the exported copies). Go to www.icloud.com and VERIFY that there are no emails present there.
Then reimport the emails (only the ones that you want on iCloud) to the iCloud account, put the rest in On My Mac folders.
