Sep 23, 2013 1:52 PM in response to Airbum88by alcontre,Thanks for that link, I'll be sending in some feedback.
I took my mbp 15" in today, after having graphics corruption issues only a month out of a $1000 depot repair. Seemed like the Genius and head genius was very understanding, and submitted my laptop to depot again. This time as a Teir 4 repair ($1200) so that they would fix the slight cosmetic blemishes on the case, and told me they were going to cover the cost at the store. So essentially getting a brand new case and logic board for free.
I'm a little worried that the only reason they were so nice this time around was because I'm still within the 90 day warranty... if I was out of warranty would I have been charged a flat rate $300 depot repair? There's definitely a big quality problem here and its absurd that Apple refuses to acknowlegde and issue a recall.

Sep 24, 2013 12:47 AM in response to Airbum88by RoderickSung,I got the same problem from Taiwan, I did also fill in this form with my disappointment and complain. But there is no response from Apple. (There is no auto-reply mail to notice me they have received my message) It is really a poor MBP. No recall no more apple.

Sep 25, 2013 4:05 AM in response to Rensoomby Dirk van den Berg,Hi, add me to the choir: MacBook Pro 8,3, 17-inch, late 2011, Radeon 6770m and Intel HD Graphics 3000.
First, pink and / or green lines right on the boot screen, grey or blue/striped screen after the spinning wheel, and fans whirring wild. Then, after Apple exchanged the motherboard for free (within the 2 year warranty) the defect mutated: now, the screen gets garbled and the MBP "beeps" intermittently, or during boot or just out of the blue.
Apple says they have to follow procedure and escalate the logic board exchange to the third time, only then they can think about giving me a new machine.
Honestly, while I think that Apple is being fair and I have no reason to complain about them following procedure, when I decided to buy this 17-inch machine I consciously decided AGAINST the 15-inch Retina. I don't like the form factor and for me as a director/writer/editor the screen is just too small. So if they can't "safe' my 17-incher, I will probably get a new MBP that I don't really want...

Sep 25, 2013 4:18 AM in response to Rensoomby sweettart,My 2011 MacBook Pro is dead after just about 2 years. Malfunctions like screen blurring, freeze and distortion happened, can't even boot and enter the system now. This universal issue is caused by the GPU of MacBook Pro Early 2011! Apple should start an quality investigation and do a recall on all these flawed models! I've shared my experience here: mbp2011 dot com
Join us and comment on the page if you have encounter the same issue! We are trying everything we can so apple cannot ignore this.

Sep 26, 2013 5:54 AM in response to sweettartby nextopia,Same here. I can't boot anymore. When I boot in safe mood. There is only a blue screen after while. The problem with freeze and destorted graphic started for about two weeks.

Sep 26, 2013 12:58 PM in response to nextopiaby The_Moves,There needs to be a way to completely disable the GPU from the OS Side so the OS doesn't even recognize the presences of the ATI GPU - essentially making the 15/17Macbook Pros into 13 Inch Macbook Pros with bigger screens. I tried removing the KEXTs though the system still showed the ATI GPU.

Sep 26, 2013 2:21 PM in response to The_Movesby nextopia,I would be very thankfully if you find a method. I am kind of disabled without my MacBook. I would also need to make a backup before I give it to the Genius Bar. I am very skeptical about the solution with 2 graphic cards. Before I had a MacBook Pro late 2007. There was also problem with the graphic card. But back then apple had a replacement program for that model. If I ever buy a MacBook it probably will be a air.

Sep 27, 2013 3:46 PM in response to Rensoomby Vicente Alfonso,Nobody think that it could be something with motherboard bios?
There was an update a month ago, and something change in the machine.
And that resolves one question, when the bios is update, you can't downgrade with a new installation even you erase the hard drive.
So I think, there is a conflict with the software and hardware because an update.
Isn't normal that many people has the same problem at the same time.
Anybody think it could be?

Sep 27, 2013 4:42 PM in response to Vicente Alfonsoby saramwrap,If you start reading this thread all the way back to the beginning and follow it to the latest posts, you'll see that there are people who have had very similar issues since the original release of these models back in March 2011. The appearance of these issues doesn't seem to be related in timing to any specific firmware or OS updates - in 2011 and 2012 there was a consistent influx of new posters discussing the display problems they're having with their MacBook Pros. It's been a consistent problem with these models for over two and a half years.
My affected MBP has had no problems with its battery.

Sep 27, 2013 6:40 PM in response to Vicente Alfonsoby Kristian_F,No, because Apple do not use BIOS.
They use EFI.
And really, believe me, the only thing what causes *crack* in the CPU & GPU is baddly added (100x too much) thermal paste.
It isolates CPU & GPU from the cooling element.
As I told in the beginning of this thread.
I also told how to fix it.

Sep 27, 2013 11:38 PM in response to Rensoomby Vicente Alfonso,Ok, but why a lot of people have this issue at the same time?
They are going to change my board this weekend. 500€ and I'm worry if doesn't resolve the problem. Too much money for a 2500€ mbp with 2 years and a half.

Sep 28, 2013 7:46 PM in response to Vicente Alfonsoby saramwrap,Like I said, lots of people have had this issue continuously since these models came out in early 2011 - there doesn't really seem to be a spike at any specific time. During any given month, dozens of people have posted in this and other discussions to share the issues they're having.
If anything, that makes it much more frustrating that there hasn't been any official acknowledgement of the problem - it's nothing new, it's not a one-off, and people have worked hard to get the word out. There are now at least two user-created websites about the problem, it's been featured on Reddit and Slashdot, and we're still troubleshooting on our own with no reasonable, reliable, repeatable solution.
It's completely understandable that you're reluctant to spend that much on a repair that might not permanently resolve the issue.
