IPhoto will not delete photos on your camera card that you don't import.

Do you mean how do you choose not to import some shots?

If so, it depends on the version. Some have a check box below the shot, just uncheck it.

Others you select the ones you want to import and click the 'Import Selected' button.

My first thought was to say use the Command Key click method of selecting photos to import. But then I thought the post sounded like andrewwipp426 wanted to delete photos that were not imported.

    So there is some confusion.

Your reading of the question is accurate, mine is more a guess based on some experience...

    your question is not clear

if you want to delete unimported photos you can not using iPhoto -image capture can and youcan do it on yoru IOS device or yoru camera

If you want to import only select items and you have a current version of iPhoto then you select the ones you want and use the import selected cuttom

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

I am sorry if I wasn't too clear...the photos that are on my Iphone that come up on the Iphoto import pane I had thought were deleted somewhere...they keep coming back up in the import pane. I can only wonder if they are I have to go directly to the photo stream on the IPhone and insure that they are permanently deleted!!

I like that idea. You can never be to safe with photos you can never get back again.

I will apologize for my ignorance first, I do not know what "image capture" is, I back up all of my photos on a removable hard drive is that the same thing? if so then I am ok! I keep wondering if these photos are still in the Photo Stream or Camera Roll that they are coming back I am going to do a little more research, THANKS to ALL for your patience & assistance!

    Absolutely no apologizes needed.

Image Capture is an Apple application included with OS X. It's located in your User Folder/Applications folder. IC can be used for viewing photos as well as for scanning.

Image capture is an application that comes on every mac that is used to "capture images" - it can import form cameras, scanners, etc - it also can delete photos on IOS devices

It has nothing to do with backing up  - Time Machine is the backujp program that is provided with every Mac

PhotoStream is not a backup - keeping them in yoyr camera roll and having them imported to your Mac is a backup but not really enough you should use Mac backup software like Time Machine too
