This would seem to indicate that you have already purchased the 20GB plan at some point - which result in your having a total of 25GB. (I'm assuming that you are not an ex-MobileMe subscriber who has had free extra storage for a year, expiring shortly - if you are, that changes the answer, so please say so).

If you have purchased the 20GB storage in the past you can't purchase it again. If you are looking to renew it, this will happen automatically unless you choose to downgrade.

Hi Roger thanks for the quick reply - yes I am an ex-MobileMe subscriber with free storage that has expired.

It hasn't expired yet, but it will next Monday if you don't pay to keep it.

If you wish to continue your current storage level, the instructions are here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5527

Scroll down to 'How do I purchase my current plan?' and expand the section applicable to your computer or device.

Yes I realise all this, and followed the instructions - but like you say the deal hasn't expired yet, so that is probably why I can't get the 20GB option - I just wanted to sort it before it expired.  Will I loose my data if it expires and then I pay for the 20GB?

    Thanks a mil

You should be able to do it now and be charged on 30 September. When you go through this process:

    1. Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click the iCloud icon.
    2. Click the Manage button.
    3. Click Change Storage Plan.
    4. Click Downgrade Options.
    5. Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.

    What does it say here:

    plan.jpg

If it says what's in the picture you should be able to click your current plan then 'Done'. If it doesn't say that, what does it say?

Roger - Thanks for this. I have been stuggling with it on and off for days. Since my CC info was already in the system, I assumed it would simply renew automatically. The step I was missing was selecting "Downgrade Options", which still seems counterintuitive since I intended to stick with the 20GB plan I had previously selected.

I would probably have lost service on Monday if I hadn't found this thread. Have a pint on me Roger!

    Dear Roger,

Slowly getting to the bottom of this - the problem is that I can't click on the 20GB plan - it just doesn't highlight the next button.  It works if I click on the 50GB plan.  But not the 20GB??  Below is my screen - see how the next button is greyed out.

    Hi Again,

It worked - I clicked on downgrade my plan - logged in and then had the options - sorry for being SLOW.

I just got off the phone with an apple rep because I had the same situation (former mobileme customer). I keep getting emails saying my free 20GB will end on Sept 30, but when I would go to iCloud preferences, it appeared that I was automatically enrolled in the 20GB plan. If so, then why was I getting the emails every other day, was my question to the rep. He didn't know, and suggested I post here so the "people who send out the email will see my comment,"

The rep said I'm autoenrolled now (he did it for me), but there was no way for me to verify my enrollment (that I could see) before speaking to him. I know I didn't "pre" autoenroll because I'd set up a reminder for the 27th to purchase the add'l storage.

I suspect this is a glitch because of MobileMe history, and that for others it's clear what your status is.
