Dec 31, 2012 7:00 PM in response to Ckyongby Texas Mac Man,The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

Jan 1, 2013 10:07 AM in response to Texas Mac Manby Ckyong,Hi Tom,
Thanks for the links. They really contain more information about battery maintenance. However, I still could not find the answer to my situation. My scenario is as follows
- using the USB power adapter that comes with the ipad mini box.
- charging it while I sleep. Ipad mini idle while charging for at least 6 hours.
- when I wake up and find it still not fully charged, I let it charged another 4 hours (total more than 10 hours)
- after that, realised that the battery icon on upper right is not charging and battery level is 88 to 90 percent. This has happened every time.
- however, if I unplug the lightning connector from my ipad mini and reinsert it, it starts charging all the way to 100 percent.
My questions are
- Is this (not charging to 100 percent) a normal behaviour for ipad charging after more than 10 hours ?
- Do I have a defective ipad mini battery? (OR)
- Do I have a defective ipad mini power adapter ? OR
- Some other causes?
- Will I shorten my ipad mini's battery life span if if I recharge it to 100 percent (by unplug and reinsert the lightning connector)
Thanks again.

Sep 28, 2013 8:05 PM in response to Ckyongby Allom,Hi I just bought my iPad mini 2 weeks ago and I have the same problem.
Does Apple products automatically turns off, when it reaches a certain percentage (which should be 100%) to save battery life.
Help?
