Q: iCloud storage upgrade - the Apple store and the tech folks will not allow me to purchase my current less than 10GB of storage without upgrading to Lion or purchasing an iPhone.  All of my software is valid for the very stable 10.6.8.

we have had Apple products since 1985 and have never had such dreadful customer (non)service wrt the iCloud storage plan.  It's not a matter of cost, it is a matter of everyone saying that it is not possible with upgrading to Lion.  They recommended two Apple resellers who both said that they will not help.  Way to go - literally.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

10.6.8 is not and never has been compatible with iCloud. If you do not wish to upgrade to a current version of OSX and do not have an iPhone or iPad that is iCloud compatible you can do nothing.

Actually it WAS - as a one-time 20 GB "gift" to earlier MacMail/MobileMe users.

The iCloud control panel debuted with Lion, Snow Leopard has never been compatible with iCloud, sorry but you are misinformed.

I would not have continued to rely on a system that my Mac was not compatible with, this is the reason why.

yes, you are correct about the control panel but, in fact, there was access to the storage et al.  No matter if I lose whatever is there, as all is backed up.  I downloaded all of the thousands and thousands of emails and am only concerned about maintaining the *.mac/*.me addresses.  No Tech or Genius had an answer, strange, eh?

      Kudos for jumping in.

If you have downloaded all the emails, then you could go to http://icloud.com and delete all the emails, contacts and calendars - then you should be well within the 5GB and won't have a problem.

Thanks Roger - been there, did that.  A word of assurance goes a long way in reducing Apple (core) stress.
