Q: How can you ignore a software update in Mountain Lion?

Software update in Mountain Lion has been merged with the Mac App Store. Is there any way to ignore a specific update with this new setup?

 

Any help would be appreciated!

There is a way...

 

For the software update you would like to hide - make sure the full description of the update is shown - click "More..." if needed to show the full description

 

Right click on the update window.  Select "Hide update"

 

This will hide the update and it will not show in the App Store Updates Window or counted on the dock icon.

 

To restore - select "Show all software updates.." which is now shown in the App store "Store" menu.  Then "Reload Page" from the Store menu.

    The "always on top" dialog that slides out is very disrupting to my work. I'm not going to install updates to products I don't use, like Airport Utility.

     

    I find this so annoying that in order to minimize the number of notifications I receive, I absolutely refuse to purchase software from the Mac App Store.

     

    If you cannot get the post-Jobs Apple to care about the quality of the user experience, maybe you can complain to the people you buy, or would like to buy software from.

    I had a similar issue after having my hard disk replaced.  Apparently the image used by the mac shop had newer versions of GarageBand and iMovie than I had.  So the update always wanted me to enter a different AppleID.  Frustrating.  There have been other threads about this issue.  One of the posts helped me.

     

    Since I don't use these apps, I moved them from the Applications folder to a save folder.  I then told Spotlight to ignore that folder.  Apparently the updater uses the files maintained by Spotlight.  Annoying problem solved.

    I finally got sick of that bright-red icon alert, and removed "App Store" from my Dock.

     

    LOL, probably saves me time and money, because I'm less likely to go shopping there now.  (hint)

    I am so over this. I've put up with it for 14 months now, I really want it to stop. I'll send $30 paypal to anyone who can tell me how to fix this. I've always updated to the latest OSX but they still have not fixed this bug.

    And no, right-clicking does not bring up a contextual menu.

    This workaround doesn't work in 10.8.5 any longer.

    Can you just turn off automatic update notifications?  I just did that and I think it solved the problem.  We will see in a day or so if the message reappears.

    The workaround of righ clicking it and selecting to hide it. Its also gone in Mavericks although you can turn off auto updates but ypull see them in the App Store when they're available. No way to really hide or ignore a soecific update.

    I right clicked and selected 'hide' in order to hide the java update on my wife's machine, did not want her updating that for various reasons, but wanted the other updates in that bundle to still display. Now they're all hidden. So I'm trying to unhide them but the advice above doesn't work. In her App Store/Store menu there is no menu item to show all updates.  She's on the latest version of Mountain Lion.

     

    So, how do we unhide what we just hid?
