Q: Why has my dictionary stopped working in ibooks since upgrading to ios7?

Mine doesn't work either.... Such a pill as I use it all the time.

Try a Restart. 

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

 Resetting your settings

You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

It didn't work for me.    Tried turning it off a couple of times.   I haven't tried the reset idea.

This happened on my iPhone 5. Go to define a word, and when the screen comes up showing there is no definition, look in the lower left corner. There should be a button that says "Manage". Click on that and then double click on a dictionary to download it. Now quit the app, and relaunch it and try it again. This fixed it for me. There were no dictionaries installed for some reason.

I have a simlar problem but its not fixable via a reset. When I try to "Define" a word in iBooks, it brings the dialog box up but only half the world desplays. on the grayline. Its seams to cut off all the way to the right side. And there is no "Manage" button. There is no defination, all there is a the "Search Web" and "Search Wikipedia" buttons which do work. I cant figure out how to redownload the dictionary without the manage button.

This happened after iOS7 upgrade to both of my iPads (v2 and Mini).

Go to your apps & update iBooks, I had the same problem and this fixed it.

This happened to me all I had to do is hit the manage but in the pop up window of the dictionary and choose one of them.

Thanks David, this worked on my iPhone 5; however I haven't tried on my iPad 1 and 2 as of yet. I love that it allows you to download multiple dictionary type/language options as this really comes in handy when reading certain literary works.
