Has anyone got any idea if there's a default passcode as I have never set one myself.  I have tried many simple codes i.e. 1234 but nothing seems to work

No, there is not a default passcode. Are you sure it's asking for a passcode and not a SIM code?

Another person without a passcode; or forgetting it; or it mysteriously appears.

    Curious.

I have just done the iOS 7 update to my disabled son's iPad, which he uses every day for therapies, and now its suddenly asking for a passcode too! After update had finished there was jut suddenly this keypad on the screen asking for passcode, and I have never had or set one before!

Madame as you I tried generic ones, 0000, 1234 etc and all I managed to do was get the iPad disabled from entering too many wrong codes!

Ridiculous that this update sets a passcode lock yet doesn't inform you in any way of what it is!

I have been locked out for days now and I don't know how to get in!

Now apple have release iOS 7.0.2 as a "bug fix" which excited me when I initially saw it this morning but turns out their idea of a big fix for this passcode problem is to create a fix that stops people being able to bypass the passcode!!

God I wish I COULD bypass the thing, but I can't and yet that's what apple decides to do a big fix for, not the fact that I and from what I can see online, many others, have been locked out of our own devices since doing their stupid iOS 7 update!!

Links that are for forgotten passcodes are no help at all as they are for people who have had one and forgotten it, when you plug your device into iTunes, if you've ever created a passcode, there is a button you can see to "change passcode" but for me this is grayed out because I have never created one!

If anyone has solved this problem above, although not exactly the same as mine, pleas please reply and help!

Or if you've seen talk and fixes about this same issue with iOS 7 update please let me know? My son really needs his iPad! I'm also too scared now to update my iPhone in case same thing happens and I'm left without a phone!

I have the same problem as you and tried the whole itunes restore thing but it doesnt seem to work.  My son also uses his ipad for speech therapy and this problem will not help his progress. I have scaned all the discussion topics and no one seems to have a solution yet that i can find.

Callumditto - I rang apple yesterday and got a very helpful young man on the phone, who ran me through what to do and it worked! He also emailed me a document with the same stores we had just used, in case the same thing happens when I update my iPhone (which I'm yet to do), if you'd like me to email you the document with the steps on how to bypass the passcode I would be happy to, either pop your email up here or email me at datobabe_1200@yahoo.com.au and I'd be happy to forward that to you so you can get your sons iPad working again too.

The only problem I had after doing it all, was I lost all his apps and books, I think this was because I hadn't backed up prior to the fix, and my latest backup was on the old version of iTunes (id had to upgrade iTunes as it wouldn't let me use the old iTunes after I had done the update! That's when I was trying  to restore it, it told me to iodate iTunes and I did, and then was told I couldn't do a restore anyway because find my iPad/iPhone was turned on and I couldn't turn it off because the passcode was stopping me getting into the iPad!! Was such a catch 22 before I got it fixed)

Anyway, before I rang apple And got it fixed, I plugged iPad into iTunes and at least could view his apps, so I made a list of everything on his iPad and wrote it down, then after the fix, I had to search for and re-download all his apps and books. It was a bit of a pain, but at least now it's all working again hey...

Let me know if you'd like the how-to document ok :)

I just realised its nit a document he sent me it's a link to a page here on apple support with the steps.. While it doesn't list our exact problem as a reason for using these steps, they ARE the exact steps we did yesterday and they worked... Here's the link for it, hole it helps and you get it sorted:

    Hello MaraAndKaid

I finally work it  out. I was running an older version of iTunes and once I updated that the restoration procedure worked and I have the iPad back. I did lose all the data but I am slowly downloading then back. Thanks for your reply.
