Q: Can I change my iCloud email in iOS 7?

I just installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. My iCloud account used to be linked to an old email address, I had changed it to the new email address long before updating to iOS 7 and everything worked great. Now on iOS 7, it's displaying the old email for whatever reason, which I obviously can't use to log in anymore. I also can't seem to type in my current email.

Is there any way to get around this?

Not sure, but sounds like you may have more than one problem going on. The problem I experienced was with iCloud only, not iTunes or the App Store - but who knows, it could still just be the same issue.

Myself, I did not have to verify my account when I changed it to my old, inaccessible email. If it prompted me to verify I simply ignored it. Just like you I had one account but it was acting as though they were separate.

Firstly, make sure under Settings > iTunes & App Store you are signed in w/ your proper Apple ID - i.e. w/ an email address you have access to and is verified. This has no new security protocol in iOS 7 so it should be no problem. If you had changed your Apple ID to your old email change it back and verify it. Sign into Messages and FaceTime as well, after iTunes & App Store:

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Use Your Apple ID...

Settings > FaceTime > Use Your Apple ID...

Now the only thing left should be to remove that old account info from iCloud. Goto https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/directToSignIn sign-in and change the Apple ID / Primary Email address to the email that is listed under Settings > iCloud. After it's changed just ignore any prompts to verify it. Go again to Settings > iCloud (on your Phone - not your actual iCloud account) and hit Delete Account. As per the new iOS security measures it will prompt you to turn-off Find My iPhone - use the same password you've been using (your current one) and turn it off the delete the iCloud account (this only deletes it from your phone).

Go back to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/directToSignIn sign-in and change your Apple ID and Primary Email Address back to your current email and then go ahead and verify it. Now, go back to Settings > iCloud and sign-in with the correct Apple ID.

I hope you're able to straighten this out now, but if I've missed something particular to your case or it just plain doesn't work post the results and I'll see if there's something I could suggest. Good luck.

Sorry, I guess the ampersand is not welcome here :) In my previous post, where you see "&" substitute "and".

I did it! I couldn't get it to work the first time because I was trying to sign into the iCloud website, instead of just chaning it on my phone, silly me.

Turns out it was the same problem because now absolutely everything works. Thank you ironboots! ^^

Sorry, can you explain further. Is this an error message you're receiving? If so, when does it occur?

That's a new one. Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll need help from Apple for this. Fortunately, you have a 5C, which is new and you're covered by Apple Tech Support - for at least a year I think. You'll find contact info here http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Good luck.

    Hello,

Is there any magical solution to my problem? I just bought a second hand iPad 4 that does not come with previous user's log in info. So, I am having trouble to activate my device. After following language>wifi>?, I cannot provide the email/cloud address and password. There is no way I can contact the seller who is totally unresponsive. How can I activate my second hand iPad?

    Thank you.

I'm afraid, the only way for you to activate it is to contact the seller/original owner as per support article - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818.
