    Just what are you doing?

What is the exact wording of the message?

There are many flavors of MP#s and MP4s and not all are compatible with the iPod.

    Do they play in iTunes?

You can Google for an audio converter.

I use the free HandBrake video converter it has present for iPod compatible format.

iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod

You may have to use a third-party program like the AVS Video Converter program. That program has presets for format that will sync to an iPod/iPhone

First, you should know your iPod supported video and audio formats, and then, you should check your video an audio files can be played by other plyers. If your files have no problem, then try to convert them to mov, m4v or other ipod supported formats. If the converted videos or audios still can't be played by your iPod. Then you should get it repaired.
