    Welcome to the Apple Community.

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)

If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

In order to delete the iCloud account on my iPhone I need a password. When I updated my Apple ID I used my new email address and did not change the password, now this "old" password no longer works on the old ID and thus I am blocked from erasing my iCloud account?

    Any suggestions?

Try to follow instructions in that article - some of that seems stupid, but in 70 percent cases it helps.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5223

If it doesn't, go to appleid.apple.com and change your apple id back to old one. When you have done saving changes, you will have few seconds to few minutes window to sign out of icloud, before you need to verify account with email.

Use those seconds to sign out.

This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.

However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7.

The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID, verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".

You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

I have the same problem as above. I have searched for my old apple id and it is not found. The old email address and my name and date of birth come up with nothing. The only thing to be found is my new apple id.

Thanks, I changed my Apple ID back to the original, the password remained the same, this allowed me to sign out of everything (iCloud and all). I then re-changed my Apple ID back again, was able to sign in to everything, and it all works (iCloud, find my iPhone, etc.).

Pity a company known for being user-friendly imposes such hurdles for its customers to overcome. But, this is only one of the drawbacks of the new iOS7 (the calendar function has also degraded significantly).

At least the people in this forum are of help -- thank you!!

Personally, I think it's a small price to pay, especially since it occurred because you didn't keep your logins up-to-date.

Going forward you can now be secure in the knowledge that thieves will now know that there is no point in stealing your iPhone. This not only helps protect your property, but potentially protects you from being mugged.

It may be a couple of months late, but your reply worked for me.  Your reply was well written and cogent.

I have the same problem – but my problem is that the (old) email id associated with my old apple ID is no longer available / accessible to me. When I try to change my apple ID back to the old one, it sends the verification email to the non-existent / non-accessible email address, and I can’t get to it to verify the email.

So now I am stuck where iCould continually keeps asking for the password for the old AplleID – resetting the phone didn’t help either.

Everything else has the new Apple ID – it’s just the iCloud (I believe the ‘Find My iPhone’) that’s stuck with the old Apple ID… is there anything I can do?

If your old ID was an earlier version of your new ID you should need to verify the account.  Just try saving the change, then using your current password to turn off Find My iPhone.

If your new ID is entirely new, and was never associated with your old email address, this won't work.  In that case, you'll need the password for the old account to turn off Find My iPhone.  If you can't remember or reset it, contact Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Products and Services>Apple ID>Other Apple ID Topics>Lost or forgotten Apple ID password.

    Thank you Randers4.

My problem is that my old AppleID was a owrk email address that is no longer available to me any more as I switched jobs. Everything was still working fine, until today I decided to update my appleID.

This is what I had, and working before the change. I know the password for this account too.

    • AppleID: mywork.com
    • Other emails associated with this AppleID: gmail.com

I changed the above appleID, so that now I have

    • AppleID:gmail.com (the otehr emil associated with the account)
    • rescue email: outlook.com

I did not change the password for the account, so its still the same. My mistake was that I did not sign off from various services on my iPhone before changing the apple ID.

anyway, I was able to update AppleID for the iTune store,  messages and facetimewithout much problems.

but iCould  on the phone (its fine on the web) is still attached to my old appleID (mywork.com), and continues to prompt for the password. entering the password, which I know is correct, just comes back with 'either appleID or password is wrong', and I can either cancel or retry.  selecting either starts the whole cycle again.  I must have done this a 100 times already:(

When I try changing my appleID back to the old one (mywork.com), it wants to verify that email address and a verification email is sent to it, and since I don't have access to the email anymore, I can't see it. So I am stuck there - the old AppleID will not work until that email is verified.

Hope that explains the my situation. and hopefully someone will have an answer to this problem soon.

Did you create the new ID by editing your old ID or is it an entirely new ID.  In other words, was the old ID an earlier version of your new ID?  If it was, you should need to verify the old email account again.  Just try saving the change, then try to turn off Find My iPhone using your current password (even though it asks for the password for your old ID).

Thanks Again Randers4 - my new ID is an 'edit' of the old one, I selected edit for appleID and then typed in the new email (gmail.com) which was already verified.

But for some reason, going back to the original email id (mywork.com) is requiring a validation. That old email does not show up in the associated emails list either.

Your saying you cannot save the change, even though it asking for you to verify the address?  Also, if those are real email addresses, don't post them.  Just post fictitious ones.
