Oct 1, 2013 10:18 AM in response to varjak pawby Gutterdawg ,I hAd to interrupt an updating iPad 2 and now cannot get it to open. After apple symbol it shows a connector cord and iTunes above it. Can the iPad be restarted without connecting to my computer? I'm away from my MacBook Pro for 30 days.

No. You will need access to a computer with iTunes installed to restore the iPad.
The thread in which you replied is well over a year old, by the way. That's not usually going to be the best strategy for getting help. It's better, and more polite to the original poster, to start your own topic when you have your own question.
