Q: convert imovie 6.0.3 files to Lion machine

I have iMovies (6.0.3) on 10.4 machine and need to play and edit them on a MacBook (10.7.5)  with iMovie 9.0.9.  Can this be done?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

You are right.  I put old iMovie HD into folder and downloaded new iMovie 11. ( I probably bought it a second time but oh well)  iMovie 11 did import the old iMovie HD file, so I guess the problem is solved.  I still prefer the older iMovie but time will tell.  Thanks again to all.

Well, there is nothing wrong with using the old version - I do. It is the one version that compresses the video losslessly, meaning there is no loss of quality. It is also far more precise for editing in my opinion. In any case, I've used both and will continue to do so as most of my footage is shot in 1080p (full HD).

Thank you.  I will stick with the old version as long as possible.  It is always good to agree with the experts.

I have stacks of Hi-8 sony cassettes that play into computer via firewire with a Sony Digital 8 camera in VCR mode.  When the dual video cassette recorder died I bought a spare digital 8 camera as a back-up.  I have been through all the technologies. First was splicing 8 mm film and then editing with the dual video cassette recorder. Fortunately I put all the VHS tapes onto Hi-8 cassettes.  Needless to say iMovie was fabulous discovery when I first got it.  I digitized some of the film with mixed results some years ago so it is going off to the pros, then onto a hardrive.
