My iPhone 5 continually and randomly makes weird "screeches" (not associated with incoming texts or emails) all day and night. VERY annoying! This is the second phone on which there has been this problem. I returned the previous (3!! - bad quality control) brand new phones for other defects, but this issue continued. They said it must be software related, but since it is random, I have never been able to replicate it in the few minutes allotted at the "genius bar," so that has been no help. Have tried reset and iCloud delete - didn't fix it. Any suggestions??

First, you need to clarify what you're talking about. You mean it makes this noise when you're talking on the phone? When the phone is sitting on the counter doing nothing? Is it continuous? Does it last for a few seconds, a few minutes? more? less? What circumstances can cause it? etc...

We're not psychic. We don't know what's happening based on your post, much less what to suggest to "fix" it.

Thanks for your quick response to my post. I have never participated in a forum like this before. This is a new venture for me, so I apologize if I wasn't clear. The weird screech/ring sound never occurs when I am on the phone - only when it is sitting on but not in use. It lasts only a second. It is continuous all day and night but at random intervals. I have never isolated specific circumstances that cause it other than it happens when nothing else is happening. Since it has occurred on 2 successive phone, I have to assume it is the software and not the particular phone. Hope that is a clearer explanation. Thank you.

You've undoubtedly got an app installed that's causing it. You'll have to go through your notification settings and see what may be causing it.
