SelectShell ▹ New Commandfrom the Terminal menu bar. Uncheck the box markedRun command inside a shellif checked.Copy and paste the following line into the text box that opens, then press return:mkdir disabled_shell_files
Close the Terminal window that opens. Repeat with this line:mv .profile .bash_history .bash_profile .bashrc .inputrc disabled_shell_files
Your old shell initialization and history files will be saved in a directory named "disabled_shell_files" at the top level of your home directory.Close the window, open a new one, and test. -

Oct 2, 2013 7:55 AM in response to surebitsby sabatica,IF it didn't work try under a different user account.
Create a standard test account
then try Terminal
Does it work?
If not backup Mac
Boot from Recory HD(Cmd+R) at startup) and reinstall OS. This will not delete your existing files. It will just replace a new copy of OSX.

Oct 8, 2013 5:18 PM in response to sabaticaby surebits,Solved!
Thanks to everyone who helped.
I added a new use and opened Terminal and the manpages were correct.
I tested further on my own account and found that my "black", i.e., white text on black background was the problem. Modifying the "Pro" to my liking gave me the white text on black background I desire and the complete text explaination on the manpages.
Regards,
surebits
