Q: How do I remove Old SharePoints?

I am in server 10.7.5 and I need to remove some old AFP SharePoints.

I have removed the file, and deleted it from the "Server" Application.

My issue is that Workgroup Manager still see's the sharepoint in the Accounts/Home tab.

Where is Workgroup Manager getting the information for listing sharepoints in the Home tab?

In server 10.5 the information was stored at /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/config/Sharepoints directory, and each of the points had a plist that you could delete.

This is no longer the case, it is now just a sharepoints plist that I deleted with no change to my issue.

I also found the same item at system/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/config/sharepoints.plist, deleted both at the same time and still Workgroup Manager has the sharepoint listed in the Home tab.

So, back to the question Where is Workgroup Manager getting its information for the sharepoints in the Accounts/Home tab? and how do I remove it?

Thanks for the help!

Joe

If the answer is using Unix/Terminal I am a novice so please spell it out for me. Thanks

iMacs, MacBooks, Mac servers, Mac OS X (10.7.5), You name it, I have had it.

    To remove a bad sharepoint

Obviously this condition happened because I did not stop the sharepoint correctly from sharing before I deleted it.

Here are the steps I found to remove the sharepoint, if it is still visible in Work Group Manager, but has been deleted everywhere else.

    1. Open WGM (Work Group Manager) and authenticate to the directory
    2. Select a user.
    3. Go to the “Home” tab.
    4. Select the Bad Sharepoint, then “Create Home Now” and save.

This will recreate the sharepoint folder.

Still in WGM change the user back to the correct sharepoint and save.

    Open the “Server” application.

1 Select “File Sharing” and “Sharepoints”

2 Select the plus sign and navigate to the bad share you just recreated, select it

    and click on “Choose”

This will bring the Sharepoint back to the Server app, Sharepoints tab.

In the Sharepoints tab, double click on the bad share.

The window will change, in the settings section, Share with AFP and SMB will already be selected.

Select (check) “Make available for Home Directories” and “Done”

(Just removing the two that are already selected, does not always work)

Once again In the Sharepoints tab, double click on the bad share.

Un check all three (3) check boxes starting with “Make available for Home Directories”

    Select “Done”

You will not see the change in the “Server” App Yet.

Back in WGM, you are still on the user that made the bad share for you.

The information is pulled when it opens the user so, that user still see’s the bad share, even though it is gone.

Select another user, and you will see the bad share is gone, and if you go back to the first user, it will be gone from there also.

Now you can go back to the “Server” App and delete the bad Sharepoint.

You can also navigate to where the bad share was and delete the actual folder.
