Time Machine hangs on "Finishing Backup" OS X Moutain Lion

    You seem to have some filesystem corruption, but I can't tell whether it's on the source or the backup volume. I suggest you start by backing up to another external hard drive. You should do that anyway, as one backup is never enough to be safe. If you have trouble doing that, then repair the first backup volume in Disk Utility. Otherwise, repair the startup volume. To do that, you have to boot into Recovery. If Disk Utility finds nothing wrong with the startup volume, you should erase it anyway and restore from a backup.

    It seems that the backup drive is failing. Disconnect it and use another one.
