I am trying to download a video from YouTube (do not rage about rights, the maker has allowed me to take the video) and Java absolutely will not allow the Keepvid applet to run. When the dialog box pops up asking if I would like to allow it, the "allow" button is greyed out and it has a message stating that java will not allow any access to this applet because it is not trusted. I pulled up the details and selected "always trust". I even went to keychain access and verified the applets trusted status there. I have tried wiping the cache and cookies and reading java trouble shooting tips. I'm using google chrome... Please help.

Thank you very much for your help!

I have tried safari and Mozilla and it does not work on those either.

Same here. Tried all three browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello,

I had the same issue and this website did the trick:

    http://www.free-youtubedownloader.net

(left side of the screen, big blue button "Click to Download")

It only allows the download of one video at the time, but for me it is what I need.

    Hope this helps,

I can confirm the free-youtubedownloader site worked, I just tried it with Safari.  Seems like a decent substitute for KeepVid.

Note: I didn't download the desktop app or anything, just put the link in the box and hit "Click to Download"

I had the same problem. The solution that worked for me is:

    Disable "Gatekeeper"

    1. Go to System Preferences
    2. Click on Security & Privacy
    3. Then where it says "Allow applications to be downloaded from:" choose Anywhere.

That solved it for me. Hopefully it helps.

You can learn more about Gatekeeper here, it has a picture of the screen you will see too:

Thanks Norin_blue - this is the real solution.  Gatekeeper was blocking the java app from running.

The newly discovered zero-day flaw in Java 7 is so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall it, and Apple has disabled the Java 7 plugin on Macs through its OS X anti-malware system, in order to protect users from a potentially serious security issue.

@Porudongsaeng -- Did you try the solution given by Norin_blue above?  That should take care of your issue.

@Klaus1 -- That is an interesting development with Java, but not really part of the problem being discussed here.  Oracle has a patch for this now by the way, and all users should update to Java 7 Update 11 using the Java Control Panel.

I also run into the same problem and had to download a keepvid mac alternative program to download YouTube videos. It really saves me lots of time.

After so long time... many of my customers facing this issue.. Tried many things and got FINAL Soultion for this....

    Google also couldnt help...

    Solution is simple...

    1) Make sure ur system is up to date and download Java 7 for Mac from Java Website

    2) Open Google Search for "java test page" Click on 1st java link

    or follow this link

    www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Run this java test and allow the applet for Java.. Once u get Java Succesfully Running you are set to go...

now go to Keepvid.com and paste ur youtube link and allow applet when popped up..

    Enjoy Using Mac and Keepvid

None of the other suggestions worked but this was perfect - thanks!

Even the System Prefs > Java control panel thought it was up to date but the Java site knew better. Downloaded, installed and it all works.
