I'm running Snow Leopard on a 2006 iMac. I'd like to upgrade the OS, but the hardware won't support it. At any rate, I'm having terrible problems with 11.1. It hangs when I do just about anything. After force quitting a couple of times, it may work for awhile ... then, in the middle of a song, it hangs again. Sigh.
At first I thought it might be a problem with Quicksilver, but the hanging occurs even when Quicksilver is turned off. I've had issues with iTunes in the past, but nothing like this. It seems to have started with the 11.1 upgrade.

You're not alone with that problem (iTunes 11.1 on a 10.7.5 MacBook Pro from 2012).
I've got 2 other problems with that version:
The artist/album/track informations of the playing track are not displayed anymore.
When dragging a track to a playlist while in grid presentation, the album infos will close as soon as the cursor enter the lateral column. It doesn't happen when in list mode.
Hope Apple will fix those bugs quickly…MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

I got the identical problem. No possibility to update infos. Freezing when moving previous or next. I have to force quitting iTunes but no solution at the moment.

Checked Activity Monitor and discovered it is hanging while, you guessed it, trying to download a podcast. Anyone know how to cancel this? The challenge is, the download being shortly after launch, so there's not a lot of time to abort, even if it is possible.

OK, more info. I unchecked "Sync podcast subscriptions" and "Automatically download new episodes ..." And no luck. Hung again. Deleted the folder on my external hard drive that held the troublesome podcast. No luck. Hung again. Went in under Parental Control and disabled podcasts. Still, no luck. Keeps hanging on the same podcast episode that it won't stop downloading. Frustrating.

Same here, it is a real pain when editing meta data and you just want to click to the next track for editing the same field.
How they have managed to break this simple function i have no idea, but it needs fixing. I'm ripping Vinyl atm and that involves a lot of meta data editing.
This slows it up big time.
All I can say is make sure you submit the crash report when you force close it, that is the only way they will take notice, bc for most ppl this won't even be an issue, a lot of ppl wouldn't know what an ID3 tag was let alone be bothered to edit one.

I have also made a video about this issue here to make it clear

Another fun trick is to start playing a track in one playlist then view another playlist and press Command key + L which is the short cut for the "Go to current song" function. Causes iTunes to go into an apparent infinite loop.

I'm running Itunes 11.1 (126) on on Mac OS X 10.8.5,
Getting this same problem when I go Previous or Next.
Has there been a solution for this? It makes my sorting a lot longer of a process.

Glad I ran into this thread. This problem was driving me nuts. I would repair permissions and restart my Mac, then it would work for a day or so. But then the problem reappeared and could not be repaired. This update seems to have fixed it. I have my fingers crossed.
