Over the past few months, I've consistently noticed that websites randomly go blank when viewing them in Safari. While viewing some site, when i click another link in it (or do any other function like 'page back' etc), it returns a white blank page with message 'website not available'. This happens randomly across all sites, those that i visit daily (including my own website) and new ones. There is no method or consistency to this. Once it goes blank, I have to wait for a while, usually a minute, to refresh it and have it working again. Since this has happened regularly with all sites, and only over the past few months, I can safely assume that its not a case of the site servers being down. But possibly a local issue.

Have any of you ever experienced this problem? Why does it happen? Whats the solution?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried emptying the Safari cache more often?

Command + Option + E then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that didn't help, try troubleshooting extensions and third party plugins.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.

    1. Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.

    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same?

    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?

    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?

    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?

    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

    Weirdest thing.

I'm using an airport and was getting this error on a specific website, and only using Safari.

All other internet and web pages seemed fine, and this one seemed fine on non-safari browsers.

Safari gave a blank page every so often, even after refreshing multiple times.  Also, the "Develop->Show Page Source" option was blanked or disabled.

Restarting the airport router and then refreshing safari seemed to fix it.

It started happening a few months ago, before upgrading to Mavericks too I think.

Imagine getting a brand new Imac for your birthday and you can't surf due to this problem! It's happening to a lot of people and since my computer is brand new, it's nothing I have done! I actually thought something was wrong with my computer. My husband got one too and I saw him online with no problems. I AM NOT HAPPY !!! I suspected Safari and I cannot get a website to open so I can DL Firefox.

I just got off the phone with Apple Help and for everyone having this problem, please call them. The problem is your wireless router's address and they will help you change it. I'm able to access web pages now but to insure that this never happens again, I'm going to plug in my Mac and forget wireless on it. Lucky that we use both so it's an easy fix for me.  .

Thanks everyone for your suggests. This problem was very erratic, but consistent, to the extent that almost 50% of the times, sites would either not open, or would not load images at all. Had become incredibly frustrating. I called up Apple and they took me through the whole process of erasing my HDD and reinstalling Apps and Data. But this didnt solve the problem either.

After going through various similar posts on this forum, I changed the DNS servers from that provided by by ISP to that of google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and voila, for over 5 days now, this problem seems to have been solved.

Though its a wonder that this issue of my ISP's DNS servers giving such issues started coming up only after upgrading to Mavericks.

This happened to me just now. Everything started to show a blank white page. It doesn't load at all. After 15 minutes of changing settings/restarting, still nothing works.

Finally I figured out the culprit behind all of it. It was the obnoxious ADBLOCKER PRO that I installed weeks ago. I thought it was useful to block ads on YouTube. However it started to block every page due to some technical difficulites. So I disabled it and it finally works! Hope this applies to some of you who are having difficulties.
