If skype still isnt working for some of you, check out ooVoo if you havent done that already. Other than Skype, ooVoo recognized my MBA isight camera right away. The quality isnt always super great but it was better than nothing.

Sorry but fix does not work.
I lost my camera again.(after I was able to fix it with the hack-fix posted earlier in this stream)

Anyone still in doubt that Apple is disabling Skype deliberately?

Apple's 10.8.5 supplemental update won't work if you have already used the hacked version of AppleCamera.plugin

If you install the Apple update after you have used the hacked version of plugin, camera is not visible to any application.

    To resolve,

    1. Replace the hacked version of plugin (from page 4 of skype forum) with the original version of plugin if you had backed up earlier.

    2. Install the Apple's supplemental update

    or

    1. Install Apple's supplemental update

    2. Replace the AppleCamera.plugin in both the /Library/CoreMediaIO/plugins/DAL and /Library/CoreMediaIO/plugins/FCP-DAL with the hacked version of plugin file from page 4 skype forum.

    Thanks,

restoring the files from time machine first and then reruning the 10.8.5 supplemental update worked for me.

Surprise, another fix from Apple and this worked for me!

OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676

    Here's my history:

    Was fine in 10.8.4

Updated to 10.8.5 - lost camera in Skype and Google Hangouts (maybe more)

Used Cybermaster's procedure to put the 10.8.4 AppleCamera.plugin back - all working again

Applied OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Supplemental Update - lost camera in Skype and Google Hangouts

Used Cybermaster's procedure to put the 10.8.4 AppleCamera.plugin back - all working again

Applied OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo) and all seems good!

Thank you to Cybermaster and all of the other great suggestions.

As a fan of Apple products and owner of 2 Iphones, Apple TV 2, Macbook Pro 2009 mid year model and a 2013 MacBook Air. Right now I am disappointed in Apples lack of ability to verify their latest updates for Iphone, Apple TV, and MacBook Air to be bug free. Its almost like they are doing no testing internally before pushing out these updates. I would suggest Apple you stop pushing updates till you get your quality checks in place in house first.

I tried the steps recommended and it did fix my camera, but then the sound disappeared.

So I can either see the person I am calling, with the old version of Skype, or hear him, with the new version.

    Frustrated.

Here is what I did to restore the camera, then the sound wouldn't work on an actual call, even though it works on the test call

The steps listed on page one of that website seems to be ok to try. In order to do this process, you have to make sure that you have already had time machine set up. These are the steps listed:

    1. You need Time Machine

    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/

    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).

    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.

    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine

    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.

I updated the combo but probably now don't have the right combination/sequence of things.  Do I now need to re-download Skype 6.3.0.582, then retrieve the plug-in from my time machine again?  or use the one on this website?   I don't follow the discussion about hacked/non hacked plug-in, and would appreciate step by step instructions now that I've done the combo update--now the camera doesn't work again and the sound may work (although I'm not sure...)  The microphone measure always flickered when I spoke, and the test call always worked, but I couldn't hear any sound at all on calls.

Thanks for leading me through this--I can follow clear directions, but am not knowledgable about how computers work.
